Frequently Asked Questions

So, since Togainu No Chi isn't the most ... common game out there and Gunji isn't a 'main' character, I thought that having this little FAQ might help people out a bit in figuring out just how badly they want to poke the psychopath with a stick.

Togainu No Chi? What's that?
Togainu No Chi is a BL (boy's love) game created and licensed by Japanese company Nitro+ChiRal for the PC and PS2. The game follows main character 'Akira' as he battles his way through the deadly game of 'Igura' in return for his freedom from prison. Akira's main goal is to beat the mysterious Il-Re who is known as the strongest person in the game.
The game takes place in what was once Tokyo but is now a massive battleground under the control of a criminal organization that holds the game if 'Igura'. To play, one must collect dog tags stamped with playing card numbers and faces, the proper hand will gain the player access to Il-Re and give them a shot at winning the game.
There are rules that must be followed (chief among them is No Cheating through any means) and failure to follow the rules gets the infamous Punishers sent after the player. The Punishers ar Kiriwar, a large seemingly lethargic and brutal man and his partner Gunji, a lithe and hyperactive young man. They have free reign to hunt down and kill rule breakers in whatever method they wish.

That sounds kind of ... dark for a BL game.
It is. The game is not one of those 'sunshine and happiness' BL games that take place in a school or mansion (haha), but one that takes place in a world devastated by World War 3 and in a city run by gangs and ruthless murderers. This isn't a happy and warm place to be.

Why is Gunji so ... well, crazy?
The why of it is never stated, but there are hints dropped that he wasn't always utterly insane. He displays moments of clarity and insight that are seeming incongruous with the shouts and hysterical laughter that usually fall from his constantly moving mouth. The hints lead one to guess that something happened to hi, quite possibly at the hands of his current employers.

Why all the warnings?
Gunji is something of a wild card and as such, he has a hard time interacting in a safe manner with others. While he doesn't always tear people apart and hang them by their entrails from buildings and streetlights, it is a possibility (though it's also just as likely that he'll lick someone's cheek).
However, I will NOT do anything to another player without explicit permission ever. If you ever feel like I have overstepped a boundary with Gunji (which is very easy to do), please let me know and we can fix it. The point to playing is to have fun and enjoy this as a relaxing pastime. I fully expect people to call me out if I go too far so don't hesitate to take me down a peg if I deserve it.

Is he really all that bad?
Gunji isn't evil. Not in a conscious way that is. What he is though is mentally ill; Gunji is sick and that illness has taken the shape of a sociopath schizophrenic killer. While he doesn't understand that what he's doing is 'bad' he does separate things in his life into one of two basic camps: rules and non-rules. You follow the rules, he won't intentionally hurt you. You break the rules and he's got free reign to do as he pleases.

What's with all the rules? Can we make rules?
Like stated above, Gunji loves rules. It gives him some semblance of structure when his mind is already a huge, whirling mess. While he doesn't like to be confined and he'll complain about how much he might not like rules, he follows them to the letter. Of course, that doesn't mean much if you don't know how to set those rules in the first place. Telling him to keep his hands off of you still leaves him the rest of his body and he doesn't need to use his hands to hurt people.
