Below is a countdown to my top ten (10) favorite movies from the Summer of 2011. Those movies missing from this list either have not been seen by me or failed to impress me.

TOP TEN (10) FAVORITE MOVIES OF SUMMER 2011




1. "Captain America: The First Avenger" - Chris Evans starred as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in this superb adaptation of Marvel Comics' first comic book hero. Joe Johnston directed.




2. "Cowboys and Aliens" - Jon Favreau directed this first-rate adaptation of a graphic novel about an alien invasion of a small New Mexico town in 1873. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford starred.




3. "Super 8" - J.J. Abrams wrote and directed this excellent science-fiction thriller about a group of friends who investigate a series of strange happenings following a train crash in a small Ohio town in 1979. Joel Courtney and Ellie Fanning starred.




4. "Fast Five" - Vin Diesel and Paul Walker led a large cast in this fifth and best film in the "FAST AND FURIOUS" franchise about a heist in Rio de Janeiro. Justin Lin directed.




5. "The Debt" - John Madden directed this superb remake of the 2007 film about a group of Mossad agents with a secret to hide regarding a mission to snatch a Nazi war criminal.




6. "X-Men: First Class" - James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender portray the younger Charles "Professor X" Xavier and Erik "Magneto" Lehnsherr in this excellent prequel in the "X-MEN" franchise. Matthew Vaughn directed.




7. "Horrible Bosses" - Seth Gordon directed this hilarious tale about three friends who conspire to murder their awful bosses, when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness. Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis starred.




8. "The Green Lantern" - Ryan Reynolds starred in this action-filled adaptation of the DC Comics hero about a test pilot who becomes a member of an intergalactic team of superheroes. Martin Campbell directed.




9. "Thor" - Kenneth Branaugh directed this entertaining adaptation of the Marvel Comics hero and Norse god of War, Thor. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston starred.




10. "The Hangover, Part II" - Todd Phillips directed this sequel to the 2009 hit set in Bangkok, Thailand. Although not as funny as the original film, I still found it entertaining. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis starred.
