http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=697860 TROY -- The city wants Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to pay a public safety fee per student that could generate as much as $1.26 million annually to cover police, fire and ambulance coverage provided to the campus.
City officials want RPI to pay to offset additional demands placed on city emergency sources due to the school's massive building program that includes EMPAC, the acronym for Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center, and the East Campus Athletic Village.
"We've had discussion. I think they should pay $100 per student per semester," Deputy Mayor Dan Crawley said.
Thoughts? They go on to hint about the fire department not giving out certificates of occupancy if RPI doesn't give more money to Troy. Back in the old days, I think we used to call that extortion.
Oh boy, another mandatory fee to up the cost of college.
