D'anu stood regally up from his chair and offered his hands palms up. "This is orientation program #026: newcomers to Uagar. Welcome ( Read more... )

"It was certainly real, Harry. However something is still not quite right. You see, all civilizations that use an interplanetary network have never put themselves in so crudely. Not with these clunky headpieces that's for sure. Nor were they so forceful..."

The Doctor thought for a minute. He knew that the answers were somewhere, and he had a feeling they were on the outside.

"I suggest we get back to the TARDIS. I have a plan."

Sarah turned to leave and headed back up the way they came, but saw off in the distance that the entrance to the tunnel leading to the surface was...gone! As if it never existed. In it's place was smooth, pristine white walls...with no signs of seams or hinges that could possibly open up to the tunnel beyond. Sarah knew they were in the right spot, she recognized some of the strange sculptures as a landmark from the point where they entered...the scupltures were there, but the tunnel was gone. Just gone!

"Doctor!" Sarah exclaimed, "We're stuck here! The tunnel's dissapeared!"

The Doctor turned and almost walked right into the wall where the tunnel used to be. "That doesn't seem right...".

He tried to concentrate in order to create a tunnel as he did everything else. This time, however, it proved difficult. In fact, it seemed impossible.

"Something tells me that the higher ups have other plans. But that would mean they realize what I am up to at the moment. Could it be that these I's create a telepathic link to the higher ups?"

The idea did not sit well with The Doctor. He felt a need for urgancy to get these devices off. He took out his Sonic Screwdriver. Being the adventurer he was, not to mention the compasion he had for Harry and Sarah, he was willing to be the first test subject. "Let's hope I don't fry anything in the process..."

As the Doctor brought his Sonic Screwdriver to his temple to remove the disc, the disc glowed a bright blue suddenly, and emitted a burst of electricty, destroying the Sonic Screwdriver right in his hands! The doctor, also shocked by the energy bolt, fell down towards the floor.

Sarah darted over to the Doctor's side. "Doctor! DOCTOR!!!" She waved her hand in front of his face, naively hoping to revive him. She turned towards Harry. "Harry, help him! Do something, please!!!"

As Harry went down to the doctor, and was about to check for his heartbeats, the Doctor opened his eyes brightly. "Well. Seems that these discs don't wish to be removed so easily."

Sarah, relieved that he was allright, Sighed deeply and held the smoking remains of his Screwdriver in front of the Doctor's face. "So it would seem. What do we do now?"

The Doctor snatched the broken Sonic Screwdriver with a pitiful look, then stuffed it in his coat with the hopes of repairing it later. The Doctor pondered a bit more about the situation.

"It seems to me that there isn't anything we really can do for the moment. What I suggest is that we play their games for now. We live the lives of people within the network, and all the while I'll try and understand how all of this works. I'm sure my charm and wit will get me straight to the top of the heirarchy, seeing that it always does." The Doctor beemed his smile in confidence. He knew there was much work to do, but for this particular case he felt as if he might really enjoy himself.

"What do you say, Sarah? Harry? Shall we play the game?"

Harry was still having trouble assimilating all that was going on. "Game??? This isn't exactly cricket." He surveyed the calm people milling around with the I's prominent on the sides of their heads. He reached up and gingerly touched his own. They weren't entirely uncomfortable, but it was disconcerting knowing they were there and couldn't be removed. "Not exactly the nicest things to have...maybe cricket would have been safer ( ... )

The Doctor looked around at the masses of people, all seemingly asleep. What caught his eye more than that, however, was that there was a section of three empty modules, sitting as if they were calling out to him.

"What's going on here, you ask? Well, I suggest we go ask someone." The Doctor rashly hurried to one of the modules and got in. Instantly, a transmission beam shot into the I implanted on The Doctor's head. The Doctor went out like a light, leaving Sarah and Harry behind.

"Doctor NO!" Harry tried to react fast enough, but it was too late. He reached into the Doctor's space to try and get a pulse and pulled his had back with a cry of pain. "We can't even get to him now. What was he thinking, getting in like that..."

Harry turned to find Sarah walking towards another empty space. "Sarah..." he got a warning note in his voice. "What do you think you're doing?"
