[Someone else is starting to have back pains which is new for him and rather worrying as well considering...however as per usual, only those who would know him well enough to pinpoint the subtle signs would even realize there's something off in the calm facade used. A silent worrisome fear lurking in those green feline-eyes, the set of the man's

How long has the boy been here?
(A voice, hard to recall now, told Hojo the General was dead.)
The professor can read this one like a book.]
You're injured. [His voice is oddly strained; he has more to say, to ask - too much more! - but the pieces aren't currently fitting.]

Minor back pain, nothing more. Nothing to concern yourself with, Professor.

You should know better than to lie to me, General.

Why would I bother lying about something so trivial to you?
[At least he's rather hoping it is trivial, most of his current concern over the lingering pain is due to just what had afflicted both Genesis and Angeal. Though he didn't really think it was the same thing, but still he had wanted to question Genesis on the subject anyway since the redhead had rather personal knowledge on the subject.]

Why has something so trivial caused you anxiety?
[He pauses briefly, considering the danger in his next proposal.] In any case, you should let me decide whether the pain is significant.
Where are you, General?

In the hotel, but I see no need for you to waste your time coming to me when your talents aren't needed.

Sephiroth's whole demeanor is subtly wrong...
...just like Lucrecia Crescent's insistent affection.
Admittedly, the shift in histories makes Hojo uncharacteristically self-conscious. Where the future is malleable, what is a man who claims to have no regrets to do?]
You are seeking advice from Genesis. [He pauses again, the name rather bitter on his tongue, though he is not quite sure why.]
Tell me, what is really troubling you?
[He will keep the questioning up for as long as he is able, knowing there is no point to find Sephiroth physically if the boy is unwilling to see him.]

[He's starting to get slightly annoyed with the persistence that Hojo is hounding him about the issue and it shows somewhat in the tone of voice used for that last question and also in the one to follow.]
I've told you already it was my back, if you don't know why I would seek Genesis to speak of such things then I don't think there's any reason to tell you outright.
[Connect the dots, professor. This is as close to an actual answer that you'll be getting from him. Perhaps you might even figure out the answer without needing to be told.]

I am capable of putting two and two together, yes.
[He draws a slow breath in. Questioning of his knowledge is always more than irritating.] But there are things neither of you would understand about Genesis' condition.
You are not like him, General. If you are experiencing symptoms alike the ones he had before his degeneration, asking his opinion on the matter will do you no good.
I am the only one who can help you. At least remember that, if you will not permit an examination.

[The question holds barely concealed contempt of the professor's ability to actually help anyone.]

And if Sephiroth actually is going down the path of accelerated mutation like Genesis and Angeal once did, though the probability of this is less than 1%...
...how can Hojo palliate the signs, without even the most basic of tools, like Mako, or JENOVA?]
...I could, at least, investigate the cause of your discomfort. Perhaps provide some relief.
[And, assure himself that Sephiroth is clean of the early symptoms of failure, that which showed in the other Firsts, in their creator, when Hollander's substandard experiments inevitably began falling apart at the seams.]
