I know that some people on my flist write slash but seriously, why?
Sure, it's a good exercise in writing. Practice does make perfect, but if you are going to base your writing off of someone else's work and you take it somewhere the the original author would have never taken it, why not just create your own original characters and story?
I seek out fan fiction because I want more of the story that I enjoyed, not something that just has the character names and places and past events of the original but the characters act completely different.
I really don't know where this came from but it irks me.
