Yes, it's still not my birthday, but I've received two extraordinarily cool things.
A digital camera and a full-size guitar. Honestly, I wasn't entirely sure which of these things to italicize, for they are both nifty and great.
The digital camera is a present from my dad, and it's Very Shiny (I steal this capitalization thing from
calapine, who is both clever and funny, so I steal in loving tribute to her being cool). It's a Canon PowerShot SD630, and it's amazing. I've not owned a digital camera until now, and like... the screen is hy00j. It's seriously 2.5" x1.5", takes movies, zooms in and out all nifty-like, and is so small. I'm gonna use it to take a pic of the guitar, which I shall post after my trip.
The guitar is a Sigma Guitars DM-5. It's a Japanese made guitar that was inspected by the Martin company before sale. The DM-5 model was made in 1979, and it's a very simple dreadnought acoustic guitar. Of all things, this guitar was actually given to me by a friend of my father's, who apparently bought a second guitar and just had it laying about his house unused. He stashed in a digital chromatic tuner, three packs of guitar strings, a crapload of guitar picks of various persuasions, and finger pics that I think belong more on a mandolin or banjo than a guitar. Nevertheless, I've got them, all in a hard case that's similar to Stephen's.
The best part of all? It sounds beautiful. I tested it out with the one song I can play, and I just squealed with delight. I'm going to get a strap for the thing tomorrow, hopefully. Furthermore, the action on the strings isn't ridiculous like it is with my Washburn Rover, so I feel like I may actually learn substantial things. Now, all I need to do is start learning how the hell to do bar chords.
