When I was a little girl, certain family elders took great pleasure in warning me against eating or accidentally swallowing orange pips. These warnings would be followed by long tales of men and women who swallowed these seeds only to have trees grow inside their bodies, branches poking out of their ears, and of ultimately having to dodge stones during fruit season as street urchins tried to knock off ripe fruits...

So imagine my surprise when I read this:
