Welcome to rp_anontalk, everybody!

Anonymous commenting is on.

IP logging is off.

Recaptcha is "off," according to my settings, but I'm pretty sure it's an LJ thing that it'll come on anyway once we hit five thousand comments.

Enjoy!

Meme, I am disappoint: A fantastic player in a game I mod came to me with a really cool idea that I had to shoot down because our gameverse just doesn't work that way, and we couldn't figure out a way to tweak the idea to fit in. I recced her a game that the idea would work better in, but she's scared of other games. Thus the cool idea will probably never see the light of day and just collect dust in my AIM log. :(

Aaaah, that really sucks. The only suggestion I can give is to alter it to fit it in, but you already tried that. :\

What kind of game and what was the idea, if I may ask?

Intentional vagueness on the canon and the details - the canon doesn't get a lot of play, so giving it would give away my player and/or my game.

The idea was a creative way to nerf her character. The character's powers are tied to items, and the player wanted to scatter the items throughout the gameverse upon bringing the character in. It'd make for great plot fodder for a whole range of characters, be it the "RAWR POWEEEEEER YES" type or the "I'm a little weakling, I wish I was stronger" type! But alas, that is not how nerfing works in this game; abilities and items are powered down or outright removed rather than moved elsewhere. So I thought the concept of scattered items of power might work better in a game like Bubblevoid what with the way the gameverse takes on aspects of a character's canon, like the gameverse would look at her items of power and go "what is thiiiiiiis" and scatter them, or go "cool story bro!" and sprout its own all over the place.

I wish I could see my player do it some day. :(

Vagueness is fine! We're all trying to stay anon here. :)

That does sound interesting. You can't power down the items and scatter them at the same time? Or maybe even turn it into a mini-event thing, whoever finds the items gets the powers, but they only last for a week or something like that.

It's the scattering that was the problem. The gameverse wouldn't do it for the character, that's not the way it powers folks down. Although if a character would do that IC-ly, whether it was "okay, I was flying over the land and dropped a few things all over the place, I'm a derp" or "ANYONE UP FOR A TREASURE HUNT :D?", I'd be totally cool with that.

Ahh, I see. Darn, sorry I couldn't help or anything.

It's okay, you're a good listener...reader...whatever. ♥ And I don't think I'd've come up with the "lost my stuff all over the gameverse" or treasure hunt ideas without bouncing it off you either, those are ideas that could happen in some way. :D
