i'm back from donsol! haha. time lapse (when did i ever go? wasn't i just in the states?) haha. i arrived from the states april 22nd. rested and recooperated for a few days and set off for donsol five days after to tag along for a feature film shoot under cinemalaya. talk about jetsetter.
donsol was an amazing place. the people of donsol are amazing people. and the experience of swimming with whalesharks aka "butanding" is even more amazing than i could have ever imagined. i think it's the feeling of swimming next to a creature so huge - like a bus - that makes you want to stop and praise nature for all it's beauty, and at the same time, the rush of swimming as fast as you can 35ft underwater just to keep up with it, and the solace of being 5 feet away from the massive creature and being surrounded by nothing but dark blue water for miles deep... this was the highlight of my trip.
thank god the locals of donsol were rather cooperative with the shoot. the people of the town were some of the most friendly people i've ever met. their kindness makes you feel at home right away to the point that you can actually believe that you are from the town. the experience of being able to drink with different sets of locals, (tricycle drivers, bangkeros, you name it) was enough to cap off my donsol experience.
there was also a butanding festival consisting of a very beautiful parade and some kind of fashion show/pagent the night before which we were asked to judge. it was fun.
the production team was a wonderful and talented bunch of very fun people. it was a honor to get to know each one of them.
yes, i have fallen in love with donsol, and yes i will be going back soon...when funds and time allow me.
i heart butanding. haha.
