One thing we all know for sure is the changing weather scenarios we will see throughout the country each and every day. You will see rigid temperatures and snow in the northeast while seeing beach weather in the south from day to day. Even at sometimes you will see the northeast be hot and sweaty while cooler days in the south. No matter where you live if you are remodeling or go through a new construction phase you will eventually be looking at window choices. Two of the most common choices are wooden and aluminum windows. There are a few things that make these choices different form one another and we will take a look at some of the subtle differences.
Aluminum Windows.
Aluminum windows was one of the first materials being used after wooden windows for window construction. These windows were usually available in standard sizes with single pane glass when they first came to the market. The only thing these windows would provide when they were first available was the long lasting ability of the aluminum. You would not have to worry about painting and maintaining these windows like you would wooden windows. But today there have been great strides made in the design and energy efficiency of aluminum windows. They can now be constructed to retrofit just about any size opening that you will have during remodeling or new construction. They are now also available with a vast array of glass choices from single pane glass to insulated glass. Also different shades of tinted glasses are available to you. With the development of many type of long lasting gaskets and sealers to accept the glass in the aluminum frames you will not have to worry about glazing and caulking to help develop an airtight seal. One of the downsides to aluminum windows even though it is a small downside is heat and cooling loss through convection. If you were to touch some of the aluminum frames on a cool winter day you can touch the frame and feel the colder temperature. The same will happen on warmer days also.
Wooden Windows.
Wooden windows have been around for a number of years. These were the first window frames that we began to use to help close off the openings but supply us with a light source as well as fresh air into our homes. These frame required a lot of upkeep to keep them in working order and to keep them somewhat airtight. It took the regular up keep of painting a well a caulking and glazing to keep them from rotting and developing cracks around the window panes. Today window companies have developed ways to make these windows last for a longtime without the maintenance problems of the older windows. These windows will add a special touch of appeal and elegance in certain remodeling and construction jobs where you want to keep that retro or vintage look to any project. Wooden windows are available in any size and style that you can imagine. They can also be constructed with energy efficient glass and panes that are double insulated as well as tinted glass when needed. One thing that you will not have with a wooden window is the convection that you will experience with aluminum windows.
