Japan rocked by 8.8/8.9 quake, large aftershocks, and a tsunami reported to reach heights of more than 13 feet (I've also heard news say waves of over 20 feet and up to 30 feet) in some locations. 19 confirmed deaths and that number is expected to rise.
Some 50 countries in the Pacific Ocean are expected to be affected by the tsunami. Russian Federation, Taiwan, Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Hawai'i, etc.

My mother is all alone in Hawai'i at the moment, but she should be fine. She's far inland and fairly high up (Central O'ahu).
