Today was AWESOME! Well, more like this afternoon was awesome. IS AWESOME. IT'S GREAT. I'S'ALL GOOD For my astronomy lab today, we went to the Planetarium! WHOOHOO! I absolutely LOVE the stars! The sky in general, but ESPECIALLY the stars!! The movement was so great! It wasn't completely accurate in the movement of the stars and the Sun, but I'm not learned enough to be able to tell (the professor mentioned it).
The ceiling was spinning, gorgeous lights twirling above my head, and I was grinning like an ecstatic kid in Honeydukes for the first time with pockets chiming of Galleons. I was grinning like one of the happiest idiots in the world, giggling when the Moon passed the Sun at super sonic speed and chuckling as I pointed out the few constellations I could (which is limited to the Dippers and, when pointed out to me, Orion, sadly). I couldn't find Gemini...
I learned so much! I didn't know that the other planets in the Milky Way moved more or less along the same path as the Sun. I suppose it makes sense that the Moon is full when the Earth is between it and the Sun, but I never really thought of it in perspective. Our galaxy is so cool!! Somewhere in the middle (it's only an hour-long class), I noticed lighter spots in the sky. Really, I had noticed it in the very beginning, but I hadn't given it much thought until I really looked at it.
"That's the Milky Way, isn't it . . . !" I mumbled excitedly to myself.
A few minutes later, a guy somewhere to my right in the invisible crowd asked, "What's that light blue spot?"
Well, I thought later, it was a stupid question, but it got the professor talking about the Milky Way. I learned a lot! I love learning about things I'm interested in! Whooo! The professor said that if one used binoculars, they'd see that the Milky Way that we can see in the sky is really tons of much smaller, lighter stars, like glitter. The dark spots in the Milky Way is space dust.
There are only a few things in all the worlds that I positively, absolutely adore, and after the ocean, the stars are a close second. Really, I can't choose between the two, but the ocean usually comes first. Honestly, everything Owl City sings about, I am CRAZY for! Not because he sings of the things he does, we honestly have so much in common! It's like he knows me! Adammmmmmmm!!!
OKAY SO. After the Planetarium, I left and went on the stroll back to my dorm. The campus is so pretty here! The class buildings are among a lovely, grassy tree area with big trees and I'm done being coherent it's GREAT! It's sunny today with a chill breeze, and it had gotten a little hotter while I was in class. It was lovely, honestly.
On my way through, leisurely strolling, I noticed what I thought was a baby red squirrel. I got a little closer, and I realized it was a chipmunk! I love chipmunks. And squirrels! And chipmunks. SO. The little guy was leaping over the lush grass between a large oak and a thinner one. Have you ever noticed how chipmunks move? They leap across the ground like a small diver leaps through the air, and midair, time seems to stand still, and for a little while, just the smallest, wonderful while, they're flying.
The little guy stopped at the trunk of the dieting tree and stood stock still. He (or she!) turned his little head, then jumped on the trunk. He crawled up a little and looked back at me. I was only about 12 feet away, maybe ten. I took another step. The cute little critter scurried up the trunk and sat on the lowest branch, a thin thing about a foot above my head. He stared down at me, cautiously curious. I took another little step, circling the tree. He was so cute! As always, I was talking to him, because that's how I rolllllll. "Hiya, little fella! How's your day?" Pause. "Mine's been pretty good. Oh, I'm not gonna hurtcha, but I know you don't know that, and really, I'm a stranger, so you gotta be careful, you know." Giggle. "Alrighty, I'm gonna letcha be, now. Get back to your day, whatever you were doing. Don't wanna hold you up!" He just stares, tilting his little head. "Okie dokie, see you later!" I back up slowly, waving. "See you later, buddy! Bye bye!" And I finally left him alone.
A little further down the way, I thought I saw a squirrel, but they must've all been at the Squirelly Society Meeting in the Big Oak at room Top Branch. I hope they're not planning to hunt Timmy Tiptoes again...
After that, I passed the grassy oasis, twirled past the Big Oak and smiled (he's huge, wise, and to be respected!), passed the library, and came upon a small, spanned-out group of trees by the cafeteria. They were all handsome Oaks save for one lovely Birch in the center. I could just see all the Oaks bowing gentlemanly, gruffly rustling their leaves, asking for a dance. I could almost hear the Birch's musical giggle as she twirled about. "So scandalous!" I exclaimed to myself, smiling warmly. Trees really are so gorgeous, and I knew one of those Oaks would be a very fortunate tree to have such a lovely Birch. (If you didn't get any of that, read Narnia for cripes sake. You won't regret it!!)
My day was pretty damn amazing. A loverly clear, bright sky in an otherwise cloudy, cold raining month.
How was yours?
