I will not drink more coffee today.

I will not avoid work today.

Shit. I'm probably doing that right now. Fuck it. I'm gonna go read Harry Potter at Stumptown. And I will have tea. Not coffee.

So my friend Holly works for Project Respond (Portland's mobile crisis intervention outreach team.) A speaker from Project Respond came to my Foundations of Mental Health class a few weeks ago and described her job. It sounds awesome. Not just awesome but fucking awesome. You basically rove around the city or just hang out with your pager and hop to when the police or someone from the community spots someone in crisis. It's like being a mental health detective/police negotiator except that people (hopefully) aren't being murdered, held hostage, etc. And Holly sez it pays $13 an hour. That's very little compared to a good programming job but in the grand scheme of things, that's not bad pay at all. And we're sitting here talking and then she gets all "Holy crap! You want to work for Project Respond? There's an opening doing exactly what I do right now."

And here's where our hero's pathetic background jumps in and fucks things up. I don't drive. I've never had a driver's license. I almost got one once but blah, bah... Project Respond roves around the city. They can't have some chump always riding shotgun and never sidling over behind the wheel. A good friend is giving me lessons and I figure I'll try to get a license before the year is out.

Y'know, fuck that. If I want to work for them then I just have to buck up and get that license sooner rather than later. I'll email Holly before I go to Stumptown.
