Put it all together and what have you got?
Thursday!
Seem to recall it's Maundy Thursday but can't remember what that is.
You can probably tell already this isn't going to be an information-rich post. I'm just here again, mainly looking forward to the long weekend.
Nothing major planned apart from going to see JAYNE COUNTY tomorrow night. JAYNE COUNTY! The last time she was slated to play was around '96 (when the DeGeneration album came out?) and the Killaz were going to support her, but that never happened. Around then C & I went to see her read from her autobiog Man Enough To Be A Woman. She's got a crazy Texas accent still. On the 'title track' of the Max's Kansas City comp alb she lists all the bands and pronounces Pere Ubu brilliantly, so that when I think of Pere Ubu I use her accent in my head.
Also on the agenda for the w/e is making a comp CD-R for C's 9 yr old nephew. Planning on including stuff like Hoots Mon! and Rocking Goose, Rockaway Beach, Yummy Yummy Yummy, maybe some upbeat Daniel Johnston or Jonathan Richman.... The hope is to also include some songs with at least some kind of critical/subversive content, but I can't really think of anything at the moment. I think Know Your Product is a bit over his head, and Armalite Rifle and Stop The War Now are just no fun. Any Ideas? Hey - what about No Fun?
C wanted the Ramones' We're A Happy Family, but drug refs and the line 'Daddy likes men' make that a no-no, sadly. What will he make of it? He isn't really aware of music yet.
Apart from that, it's video and DVD veg'ing - lots of stuff to watch! Made a bit of a dent on the pile in the last couple of weeks - Hank Williams doc, Breathless, Strange Love of Martha Ivers, Dazed & Confused, Rushmore, McCabe & Mrs Miller, but more to go - The Gleaners & I, Mother India, Koyaanisqaatsi, Mr Imperium (cheap 1950s Lana Turner vehicle), Indiscretion of an American Wife (Monty Clift!) and others.
I want to do some recording too - it will be my last chance before the dissertation really takes over my life for the summer.
