Warnings: None... and/or spoilers for Kingdom Hearts?
Effects: A strange emptiness.
There is a dark expanse stretching out before her. Kairi stands alone, staring blankly into space, not particularly aware of anything. Suddenly, her eyes widen slightly, as if recalling herself. Then, without a word, the teen begins moving forward. She goes at a walk at first, and then breaks out into a run, though it's unclear if there really is anything in the void.
Do you even want to save--
All at once, there is another figure in the space. It's Kairi, a few years younger, curled up on the ground. The older redhead, not even phased, moves toward the younger girl with a concerned expression.
"I couldn't even do anything..." the fourteen year-old says, wrapping her arms around her knees. "They were in danger, and I--"
But, she's gone again. Kairi looks up, blinking, not quite processing what has just happened.
"Let's join forces to save her."
There, in the distance, are Riku and Sora. She sighs in relief, and smiles as she runs to them. But, there's something different about the two boys. They're younger, as the other Kairi was, and in their expressions... what is it? Why would they ever look at each other with such animosity?
So, Kairi's a lifeless puppet now?
She turns, and sees the fourteen year-old Kairi again, sitting with her head bowed, her eyes vacant. There's a searing pain in the older girl's chest, and she moves a hand to her heart as the throbbing continues, threatening to tear her in two.
"Soon, Kairi. Soon."
She doesn't turn around again, but behind her, both of her friends are fighting numerous shapeless figures. Fighting a long, losing battle.
Maybe she's really lost her--
The pain subsides with a flash of light. But, now there's a strange emptiness. All at once, Kairi falls to her knees, mirroring the younger version of herself nearby.
"Kairi, open your eyes!"
"... the last Princess of Heart still-"
"Kairi's heart rests within you!"
The sounds of fighting have stopped, Standing nearby is the younger--older--younger Sora, holding a frightening-looking blade before him. Kairi again remembers herself and jumps to her feet, filled with a sudden dread. Just as she's reached out to the brunette, his name on her lips, he's driven the point of the blade through his chest. And when she reaches out to him with a pained cry, he disappears.
You've got to run! The silver-haired boy is behind her now, and she whips around just in time to see him fade away as well.
Kairi's golden Keyblade, a gift from Riku, appears in her hand, willing her to fight. Consumed with regret, though, she sinks back to the ground, into the void.
