There was nothing... literally, nothing. It was a huge, black, empty space, filled with... nothing. Kairi stared ahead into the darkness, mysteriously not bothered by this fact, though very curious about it. Why wasn't there anything there?
Then, there was something. A single step, red stained glass, appeared in front of her. She looked down at it, tilting her head slightly, before stepping onto it. Almost instantly, another step appeared ahead of the first, practically beckoning the Princess of Heart to continue onward. She took another step, and another, and another, making her way up a steadily-appearing staircase of stained glass.
Finally, after a while, the steps reached the top of a huge pillar, one whose top was completely covered in the same kind of red glass, though there was some design on it that the girl couldn't make out from where she stood. Once again, she wasn't exactly sure what to do, but then something caught her eye. Two people stood in the distance, their backs to her... but, she would recognize those backs anywhere.
"Sora! Riku!" she called out, her voice echoing all around her. Relieved to see something familiar, Kairi started toward her best friends.
Crack.
She froze, hand outstretched, halfway to the two boys. Suddenly, there were a lot of loud cracking sounds, and she realized, with a jolt of terror, that it was the sound of cracking glass.
Just then, the half of the pillar holding Sora and Riku shattered, breaking apart, falling down into the black abyss. She flung her arms up as some sort of protection against the flying shards of glass, and when she was able to think again, the two were gone.
With a cry, the auburn-haired teen moved forward, looking over the edge for her friends, to help them, to... to do anything. She never did anything... could never do anything. She hadn't been able to help them before, and hadn't been able to save them now.
Kairi was looking down into the emptiness when the rest of the pillar collapsed, and she, too, fell into darkness.

Kairi bolted out of bed, still panicked, breathing heavily. She turned her wide eyes on her hands and arms, which were cut up, and bleeding.
"N-... No..."
