If she’d heard it once, she’d heard it a thousand times - Buffy’s little soprano, brimming with wounded innocence, “But Mommy, I didn’t do it! It was HIM!”
Joyce frowned at the empty casserole that should have held the scalloped potatoes for dinner. It was third time this week. No doubt this was his work - Eduardo.
It was always Eduardo - the one who broke the lamp, who tracked mud in, who left toys on the stairs, and who left towels on the floor.
Having imaginary friends was normal enough, but she worried about Buffy’s inability to admit her mistakes. Enough was enough. No more blaming everything on poor Eduardo.
She caught a glimpse of something in the doorway. Her little angel, she assumed, waiting to see if she'd be punished.
“Get in here please…”
It did - all six, massive, purple, furry feet of it. Her panicked gaze took in fangs in a huge maw, wickedly curving horns, a skull belt buckle.
"Hola."
She screamed.
It dropped to the floor, crying loudly. "¡Lo siento!"
Through her fear, she heard that tiny voice. “Mommy, stop! You’re scaring Eduardo.”
Hank could deal with this; she was going to go lay down.
END.
