One of Bug's teachers brought her 3rd grader to work with her a few days ago. At one point, the 3rd grader was doing his math homework. Bug sat down next to him and watched him for a while, then was prompted to do some "math" of his own. Completely alone and without any assistance from teachers or the 3rd grader, he wrote "a map of how to count from 1 to 60".
Also, Bug read his first book all by himself last night - "
Rosie's Walk," by Pat Hutchins. He only stumbled over three words - "across," "around," and "through." All the other words he either immediately read or decoded by himself using phonics and the pictures.
He is so very proud of himself this week. He just gets an ear to ear grin whenever he talks about the numbers map or the reading.
Yep, he's a genius.
