day of champions '09

Mar 14, 2009 21:56

well, i haven't had anything worth taking the time to write about lately, nor the time to write... here's to the first day I actually have an hour's worth of gap time, which I don't really have but I'm taking anyway. ;-)

quick update of the world: bball is over, school is stupid, and i can't wait to get out. oh wait, some of that's not new. oh well. on to today!

today was such a perfect day. of our quizzes in the morning, we took 1st in five and 2nd in the sixth (by 10 points). then me and my teammate sharpee'd our coach's shirt during lunch, which was quite a lovely present. we ended up in 5th going into the playoffs. we lost the first round of play-offs. i was really tired and kept blanking out every time i jumped. however, before the second quiz, a friend told me to eat starburst. i tried it, and it worked! i quizzed out the next quiz, and we won and got into the finals!

so yeah. i grabbed a short nap before the finals, loaded up on more starburst, and got ready for our big quiz. discovered one of my teammates had to leave because he had to work, which stank. but yeah, we got up there and began the finals of the March '09 Day of Champions.

On question 14 the score was 40-100-60, my team with 60. I got 14 right and froze, adding 20 points plus a 10 pt bonus for freezing without error. So on 15, the last question of the finals, the score was 40-100-90. I was frozen and couldn't jump; i only had one teammate who could jump. 15 was a reference question. I instantly went, "Oh NO" because my teammate didn't study those as much as others. "According to Luke chapter 8, a woman was-" Michele got it! She got up, I immediately started fasting and praying, pleading with God on the knees of my heart to let her think of the right answer. A few seconds later, she said an answer, and the quizmaster said, "Congratulations, champions of 2009!" And I jumped up and gave my teammate a huge hug. We'd just won the finals by 10 points!

So yeah, that majorly rocked. We got trophies, and I got a trophy for placing individually. Got beat out from Dream Team by 10 points tho. *shrug* I've gotten it before, so my life is complete. :-)

While waiting for stats on the Dream Team, they did the senior thing where all the seniors come up front and hold up how many fingers they've been quizzing. I held up eight fingers. eight. wow. i have eight quizbooks in my room. eight years of memorizing. good grief. so much scripture applied to memory. mike was right; there were so many times when it would've been so easy and tempting to quit quizzing, but i stuck with it. at the end of mike's talk, the crowd stood and gave the seniors a standing ovation for their dedicaiton to quizzing. i'd done okay subduing my emotions, but then i got teary-eyed. it was almost as if God were there, in that room, telling me, "well done, good and faithful servant." it really touched me. but yeah. staring out at all those friends, all those people i've grown up with, all giving me a standing ovation, telling me good job for sticking with it and making those sacrifices to memorize God's word, well... it was amazing. i was suddenly struck by how awesome God had been to me today, and it brought tears to my eyes. wow.

After it was all over, we got Chinese and a couple friends stayed for a couple hours at my house. It was really nice, just time to talk and chill. what could be a more perfect end to a perfect day by spending it with friends?

Thank you God for all the blessings of today... what an awesome way to complete my eighth and final Day of Champions.
