Tsunade's Past for my reference and for whomever wants something to read.

She and her younger brother were born into a clan of doctors in Traditional Medicine. They were raised with experience in Acupuncture and energy work, and were sent to private schools that encouraged their beliefs. The siblings were very close despite their 5-year age difference, spending most of their free time together and then some - they both wanted to be head of their clan although her only reason was to give him motivation and support. High school had just started for her when Nawaki had fallen ill back at home and died of a sudden and preventable illness; his death tore her apart and she took to gambling and alcohol as a means of an escape. Tsunade became bitter with the world.

Years went by and her attitude remained the same. In order to get her out of her gloom, her friends tried setting her up on blind dates with some male (and sometimes even female) friends they knew; however, her depression and aggressive attitude chased away all the potential suitors rather quickly and she never saw them again. Just as she was about to give up on life and medicine, a man appeared in her life and instead of taking pity on her or being angry at her views, Dan was patient in listening to her story and offered his friendship in return for the chance to make her happy. Soon after they met, she slowly started spending more of her time in her books and laughing then at the casino's glaring over an alcoholic beverage. She was truly in love with Dan. Not because he gave her a chance to get her life back, but because of his kind and gentle soul that seemed to touch people whenever he was in their presence. He was also studying to be a doctor and had a strong belief that Western Medicine could benefit from Traditional Medicine, he had been playing with that idea with his patients and discovered a massive potential - his determination spoke to her and seeing the results with her own eyes, she took his belief as her own.

They were engaged at the time Tsunade applied at Sado School for her first University year. It was one of the toughest application processes she had ever experienced, but she was confident in her abilities as a proficient medical student and Dan's support kept her grounded while she waited for the letter that would determine her fate. The day the letter arrived, they had been sitting around the dinner table celebrating her acceptance when she decided to go for a wine-run to make the night even more memorable, laughing and giving him a quick kiss goodbye she had left him to his own demise. She had returned a few minutes later, since the alcohol store was only across the street, laughing and catcalling to her fiancée but fell silent at seeing the door splintered and slightly ajar. Filled with dread, she let the bottles shatter to the floor and ran into their flat. Nothing could have prepared her for the sight she stepped into. The walls were splattered with bloodshed and dripping in every corner, his form lying in a steadily growing pool of his warm seeping blood. Her chaotic screams brought the neighbours and police where they found her cradling his dead body, trying to will life back into him.

His funeral was a blur and ending with the police approaching her with the results of their case - Murder. Dan was so well liked by everyone and had such a clean past that they couldn't come up with a list of suspects; because there were no leads the case was put on a backburner until further notice, leaving her with absolutely no closure.

Summer past too quickly. She forced herself to remain enrolled at Sado School. She was torn deciding what to medically specialize in and wished for Dan's guidance every night, there wasn't a minute she didn't think about him but nights were the worst. She became depressed and more bitter than before, angry that the Gods took the lives of the two men that made their ways into her heart. Her moodiness made it difficult for her to keep a roommate and in some ways that made it better for her. She didn't want people to hear her cry at night after a long night at the Casino and she didn't want to have to worry about people bitching at her to stop putting off her schoolwork. In some ways, she knew their chiding was done in her best interest, but she lived at her own pace. Within time she decided not to specialize in one certain area and instead spent her time studying as much as she could about the two areas that influenced her lives the most - Endocrinology, in respects for her brother, and Oncology, in Dan's memory. Time went on and somehow she managed to develop a mask. She found herself making friends and laughing with others, but out of her friends there were maybe one or two that knew about her past.
