Unbeaten run of 2007 keeps going!!!

Feb 11, 2007 14:23

Yep thats right Reading are still unbeated in 2007 and yesterday not only held onto sixth place in the league in 43 points, but also stopped another team doing the double over us!!!

Even thought it meant an early KO due to it being on sky, the Mad Stad was rocking. The pitch had been covered to protect it against the rain and the snow and looked ok. Reading fans had sold out our section of Mad Stad and the villa fans brought alot of their fans too - noisest fans so far!! This meant a recond attendance of 24,122, beating that of the Spurs game from November. So spirits were high and songs were coming from both sets of supporters.

Murty and Barry led the teams out (Readings were unchanged due to Harper and Long passing late fitness tests) and we all got a chance to see Villa's new boys! Reading had a shakey 5 mins or so but soon were on top of villa and had most of the ball in the first half. Murts was making fantastic runs down the right wing from right back, pushing towards the goal, as was Shorey (who should have been called up for England - McClaren, take note)who was not only playing in his usual Left back position but was also running Left Wing along side Hunty!! fantastic to see them both getting forwards again. Murts is in hunt for that goal again

Hunty and Little were great on the wings, even though they had their moments. In fact it was from a Stephen Hunt corner that Sidwell's first goal came from!!! seriously the way he is playing i might have to stick him in my dream team!!! So Reading were 1-0 up and kept battling until about 10 mins from the end of the first half, when Villa began to push forward and give Reading a shakey end to the first half.

Half Time means only one thing at Mad Stad (well for me anyway) Oster was on the pitch!!! That and the fact that the Reading fans spotted Kevin Doyle up in the stands watching the game!! leading to rounds of 'We all dream of a team of Kevin Doyles'. Come back soon Kevin, we miss u!!!

Second half started and i dont know what Martin O'Neil said to Villa at half time but OMG it worked. they came out all guns blazing and reading couldnt get near the ball!!! Reading worked their way back into things and Sidwell scored again only to have it disallowed by the ref as a foul on the goalie - never!!

Sidwell then went down with a thump after a takle and Oster appeared on the touchline warming up - thats it u know he will be on at some point, ever warms up otherwise. However Sidwell seemed to be ok and carried on, so I had to wait abit longer for Oster to make an appearence.

Lita had a few chances but couldnt convert them, Long was great at annoying the villa defence and on defensive duty for Reading when needed but never really got a chance to shine like in previous games and was subbed just after the hour mark, making way for Kitson (bless Long though he was knackered, he had played for Ireland midweek as well).

Kitson came on and there was abit more about the game!!! And well when we finally got to see Oster on 77 mins for Glen Little, i was not only a happy bunny, but boy did he show certain fans who see him as a villan of Reading fc that he can prove the wrong and deserves more credit than he is given. He worked his socks off and is one of the season why i think Seol can not get back into the team at the moment - Oster and Little are on fire.

Looked as if Reading would scrape a 1-0 or at least a 1-1, but nope, a quick 1-2 from Sidwell to Kitson who flicked it back to Sidwell made it 2-0 reading and everyone was going mad!!! it meant another 3 points towards premiership surival and other win under the belt. Sidwells celebration was fantastic. he ran all the way from the goal, ran passed us and all the way to the reading bench on the west stand!!! by then it was too late for a villa counter - attack and it ended 2-0.

But i must give Villa their due, they played out of their skins in the second half and were unlucky to get a draw. It was one of those days for them, but Marcus made some vital saves to keep us in it. he seemed to have picked up from previous games where he hasnt really been with it.

MOTM - got to go to Steve Sidwell!! although Hunty, Murty, Little and Ivar (an unsung hero in my book) all played amazing. but u couldnt fault Sidders yesterday, got stuck in no matter what and reinforced the fact that Reading would be silly to let him go. Come on Sidders put us out our misery and sign the new contract!!!

Man u also won keeping the gap at 6 points between them and chelsea, so a very good weekend for me footballing wise. Next up in the cup man u v reading (i cant really lose, but want a reading win more than anything) and then in league its Boro away in 2 weeks which is another early start.

Other than that, just been told my baby cousin is coming over in about an hour so yay!! love it when she comes over. And well on the down side - i fell over this morning and twisted my ankle so am in alot of pain, really hurts and cant put wait on it yet. so not really going to do alot more today. might watch the gunners game soon.
