The legend that is Graeme Murty got the send off he deserved on Monday and was glad to see more people turn out that what had been reported. the attendance was only 7500 but this was way more than what had been reported last week.
He was given guard of honour by both teams and he came out with his daughter, nephew and god-daughter who were all very cute. his daughter didnt want to go off the pitch and before the game walked back on and went to her daddy! too cute, esp as she was decked out in a reading kit with blue and white ribbons in her hair too!!! he also came out to rounds of 'He's M.U.R.T.Y'! which carried on throughout the game! love this song!
some of the 106 team didnt turn up which i was slightly gutted about (OSTER, FORSTER) and some didnt play due to injuries (DOYLE,HARPER,HUNTY) but it was still great to see Doyle back at the club for one last time, i t was just a shame he didnt get to come on the pitch for us to show our appriation and so i could sing 'team of Kevin Doyle's' and 'super kev' for one last time! but it was a great turn out by the old players...Marcus, Lita, Doobs, Parkinson, Cureton, Igoe, Little, Hunter, Watson, Howie, Salako to name a few! i was a huge fan of Cureton and Igoe so was jumping for joy when they appeared!!!
Murty of course ran the show and no one got away with it,even the linesman who flagged offside, which led to Murts taking his flag from him, giving it to the ref, who then booked the linesman. It was Murty's game and what he said went, even scoring an own goal when the new team were given a penalty..there was only one player that was going to take it! All three penalties that were given that night were taken by Murty and he scored all three! the last one even saw him pumlling kingsley for old time sake (just like he did in the QPR game back in the 2005/06 season), us shouting 'SHOOT' everytime he got the ball and singing 'IF MURTY SCORED WE'RE ON THE PITCH'! (again from the 2005/06 season!!) - the memories!
Rosenior even at one point picked up Sidwell and fireman lifted him across the pitch! so funny!!! Sidwell played the game the only way he knows how and was flying in from all directions! good to see him and Shorey back too (both got great receptions!) So must say thank you to Aston Villa and Wolves for letting them, Doyle and Marcus come back!!! it was much appriciated by the fans!
Murty almost had me in tears at the end of the match after giving a speech which saw my mate in tears! didnt seem real that that was his last game in a reading shirt after 11 years and over 300 apperances, but it was an amazing night! which finished 3-2 to Brendan Rogers Reading (thanks to that Murty OG!!)
was also nice to see some of the new faces that we will be seeing alot of over the next few months and to their credit they played well, gave the game their all and did not disappoint anyone! cant wait for the season now! next up at the mad stad.....CHELSEA!!!
will post pictures as soon as i get a chance too and my computer decides to upload things.
but signing off with....THANK YOU GRAEME MURTY, FANTASTIC MAN AND TOTAL LEGEND TO ALL READING FANS. WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN WITHIN THE CLUB AND WELCOME BACK ANYTIME! MOST SUCCESSFUL CAPTAIN IN THE CLUB'S HISTORY!!!
