Reading 1 - Newcastle 0!!

May 03, 2007 18:43

i know the game was on monday but ive had a hectic week!! parents went away on sunday and my brother decided to have his mates round for a bbq yesterday, so ive been trying to get the house sorted as they are due back tomorro. not only that but ive had 3 days of football, so not had much time

anyway back to monday - OMG i loved it!!!! its been one of the games that ive been waiting for since the first tie at St James Park! plus i wanted to see Owen (he's so tiny ). was nice to see both set of fans give him such a huge round of applasue when his name was announced!!!! bless him.

the noice of the clapping for Ball was fantastic, well done everyone, you did him proud!!!! even the chanting of 'alan ball, alan ball, alan ball'!!!! rest in peace.

Reading team included a few suprises - Marcus, DLC, Ivar, Doobs, Shorey, Hunt, Oster, Gunnarsson, Seol, Doyle and Kitson. The bench was Fed, Long, Halford, Bikey, Harper. So no Sidwell again, Harper dropped to the bench and the central midfield partnership of Oster and Gunnarsson (not that im complaining, Johnny got to play :)) but its another midfield option that we have got and it had to be tested!!!

Couldnt believe Owen nearly scored within about 3 mins from KO, my heart was in my mouth and was to be again later when he actually hit the back of the net, before i realised that the linemans had given it offside! woooooo!! the game was scrappy in places and there was agreat battle between Shorey and Owen that i loved, but personally i think everyone was tackling Owen or trying to get the ball away from him (there was one time when 3 of our boys were on him, now thats respect from the Reading boys!!!!)

Doyle was great as usual and ran his heart out thoughout the whole game, even when he had 3 guys on him! But im sorry ref u are bloody blind he should have got 2 penalties!!! if there werent pens then i dont know what u would give as one?????????
oh why we are talking about the officials - funny moment of the game was when the ref had to tell our mascot Kingsly to go and sit behind the goal becasue he was confusing the linemen. Believe it or not the lino thought that a 7ft lion was one of the players????? come off it, im pretty sure none of our boys look like lions?????

ok so first half came and went and then second half arrived!!!! ok as you all know im not a great fan of Kitson, but he has been waiting for that goal for ages and it finally came not long after the break and boy did he mean that celebration, even if it did get him booked (he didnt care - hes stated that it was for the fans for keeping faith in him). glad to see him happy on the pitch for a change. plus got great celebration pics of him and Oster! :) very happy about that.

after the goal we seemed to be abit more with it, but the magpies also seemed to press forward at times and went close. Owen stayed on for the whole 90 mins, but that was prob due to the injuries that they suffered (sorry to hear that both players are now out for the season). Sadly Gunnarsson had to come off injured and was replaced by Harper :yay:, then Long came on for Kitson and Bikey for Oster (with about 30 secs to go), so another 90 mins for Johnny (he's got to stay, he cant go). But at the end it was another victory for the Royals and that meant a move into 7th place again (although Spurs have a game in hand). Dont get me wrong i love being 7th, but i still dont want Europe next season!!!!

Questions are still there about Sidwell, but apperently he is set to start on saturday against Watford (will be his final home game if he goes), as is Lita, whos 3 match ban isn now over (not sure who he will replace though).

News on injuries is that Murty will NOT be back this season, so im gutted :(, as hes been such a great player this season and as captain is a huge miss. get better soon Murts (we want u there on saturday still, injured or not!).

Oh and our reserve boys did well too - they won the south reserve league (champions!!!!) after beating west ham 4-0, but them again they had to be beaten 22-0 to actually lose the title and i couldnt see that coming  now they get to play Bolton at the Mad Stad on Friday 11th May to see how gets the overall title!! im going!!!

anyway suppose id better go and get some food, ttys
