Sarah Connor Con 2011

Mar 25, 2010 01:29

Over at savethescc, we've talked off and on for several months about organizing a TSCC con. The Freaking Big Push took priority, though, and we're now trying to get more going on Push 2: The Resurrection. So any con talk is still saved for later, but we all really want to plan one ( Read more... )

My gawd I would go. I would give serious thought to overcome my fear of flying to be there in a jiffy :D

I've never been to a con, so I'm not sure what would be expected. However, it would be nice to have QnA with any of the actors there, lead or supporting, writers, Mr Friedman, cosplay contest?, tables for vendors, artist, and pancakes

I've seen talent shows at these things too on youtube. Interpretive dances are always a bonus at any event, right?

Hee. Sometimes a strong desire to be someplace can get you on a plane when you fear flying. That's how I flew from east coast to west last year... Comic Con!

I've never been to a con, so I'm not sure what would be expected.

I'm still pretty new to cons myself. I've been to the biggie, Comic Con San Diego and also to Dragon*Con. but I've only been to one small con and I was only there for a couple hours. The typical things are panels/Q&As, autographs/photo ops, social activities and vendors. So you're already thinking along the right lines.

and pancakes

Pancakes! Yes. That was actually an idea we'd talked about before - a pancake breakfast or pancake cook-off contest.

cosplay contest?

Y'know, I don't think a con can exist without costumes, even if it's a con for a show like TSCC where everyone looks pretty normal.

talent showsMaybe people performing scenes? That could be fun. Or maybe parodies of scenes or musical renditions of scenes ( ... )

You guys still have my contact if you want Con help. I've gotten involved with a Single Fandom con recently for one year, and it's certainly been an informative learning experience. If you guys ever start seriously discussing a convention again, just hollar.

Awesome. When we finally get around to actually planning, I'm sure your skillz will be in demand.

Y'know, if you Yanks made proper pancakes, you could have a pancake tossing contest (not as rude as it sounds!)

You should definitely get the Comicals blown up for an overhead projector...

The biggest obstacle tends to be the likes of Fox and WB getting pissy and possessive about the show (y'know, despite the fact they axed it) and not wanting anyone daring to make profit from it (even though fan things tend not to be profit making ventures anyways.) Way back in my XF days, we held a fan con in Manchester, it was great fun but the main organisers were threatened with legal action by Fox *shrugs* we did it anyways and no-one got sued!

I remember the screening room with a highly unofficial (read: illegal) gag tape being very popular, but then TXF gag tapes were a thing of beauty, and not the sanitised for DVD drek that tends to be issued these days! Would be good to make a reel of all the fan vids, interviews, campaign vids and behind the scenes stuff.

I think you should definitely have it in Manchester then I can come ;-)

I'll put MY scratch pancakes up against ANYbody's.
Plain, banana, blueberry, chocolate chip, pure Maple Syrup, etc.

And please don't mention tossing food. It's been a rough couple of days with a stomach virus. My chest and back are still sore from the muscles I pulled tossing a chicken dinner.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Luckily I only touched your LJ electo-photonically!

We're still debating whether we got this from our home-cooked chicken (food poisoning), a weekend restaurant meal, or possibly from weapon-sharing last week at archery class.

Who knew Purell should be part of weapons cleaning?

Much better, Thanks.

I like the idea that April 19 is Patriot's Day, and the 21st is Judgement Day, but thinking logically, won't mid-week Tu-Th be a problem for a lot of folks?

Any interest in including a real firing range in the venues?

Considering all the regulations that need to be met to have a firing range plus the accommodations needed to run a convention of this scale well are rarely found in the same building? No. If it'll help though, I'll make print offs with directions to the closest firing range to the hotel so people can run off and make things go boom if they're interested. LOL.

I honestly don't know the realistic scale of a single show, TSCC convention. Or would it be a Terminator convention?

I'm imagining anything from a few dozen, like the recumbent cycling "convention" I attended, to a few hundred, like a Star Trek: OS mini-convention at UConn around 1980. With the internet as an organizing tool, I guess it could be something larger.

How many attendees might you expect?

We wouldn't know how many to expect right now as this is still nothing but a concept. A Single Interest convention I'm helping out right now on their low end get 30 people and on their high gets 200, but it's a smaller fandom. Point is, any convention from the size of 20 up through a couple thousand works best in a hotel. It's only when you hit San Diego Comic Con proportions that you need to start thinking of a convention center instead.
