i was so deadset on making cream of mushroom soup for dinner last night that i went to the grocery store and spent $7 on mushrooms alone. that is quite the financial commitment to fungi, eh? but it was worth it. the recipe was so simple, and yet so delicious. probably the best cream of mushroom soup i've ever had. this may or may not have something to do with the fact that the recipe called for 1 cup of half-and-half.
but my foodgasm was tarnished by the fact i forgot to drop off a fedex package in the box on my way home from work. if it's a small envelope, i drop it off instead of having fedex pick it up because you save a dollar. not a lot, i know, but i work for a non-profit and i try to do what i can. the drop-off box is on my way to the subway, so what the heck, right? but i shoved it in my bag and must have been focused on something else (like fungi) because i didn't realize my mistake until i got home. it was a document that needed to be in scotland by today! D'OH. i know that it's not the end of the world, but it just made me feel so incompetent. my job is not very challenging, and when i am given a menial task like that i can't even follow through, like what kind of idiot am i? there was a whole menagerie of self-doubt last night. it lasted for approximately 45 minutes until the soup was ready and i was able to numb myself with fungi. i am trying to incorporate "fungi" into this entry as much as possible.
i also watched the gwen stefani special. she came across pretty down-to-earth, which was nice because she was kind of lame and mental when she was doing interviews for her first solo album. of course i also watched Gilmore Girls and was delighted to see that knitting took a major role in this episode. that scene of taylor dressed up in the blue sweater, scarf and beret? that was worth the price of admission alone. and i am liking this weirdness between rory and marty. he totally has feelings for her, and do i correctly detect some feelings on her behalf? if she does have them, it ties in nicely with that article she just wrote about rich snoots and trustafarians. maybe she will rebel against logan and his fancy pantsiness by hooking her shiz up with marty? we can only hope.
oh, i want to thank you all for your book recommendations! i went to the library at lunch and picked up Middlesex as well as another book i had on hold called Chick lit: The New Woman's Fiction. it contains a bunch of academic essays about chick lit. one of them is called "Bridget Jones and Hungarian Chick lit". that will be fascinating i am sure.
tonight is all about:
- reheated soup
- yoga
- reading about hungarian chick lit
television,
food,
work,
books
