i am eating leftover vegan corn chowder for lunch, that i had originally made last night for dinner. it is from my new cookbook, Vegan with a Vengeance, which i love with a vengeance! (lame). my parents got it for me for My Birthday That Has Now, Finally, Ended. anyway, it contains two jalapeno peppers in it. i cut them up and then washed my hands, thinking that the hotness would be washed away and i would be out of trouble. but the hotness, unbeknownst to me, remained. i guess i had rubbed my nose with my hands or something because all of a sudden, this gradual burning sensation started to afflict my nose, including the insides of my nostrils! at first, i tried to flush the heat out with water, but that didn't do anything. then i tried milk, but that didn't work either. TSM suggested i try bread, so i actually shoved a bread crust up my nose, which was, needless to say, a first for me. but still the burning remained! TSM did a quick google search and found that lemon juice or citric acid helps, so then i used lemon juice and that seemed to help a bit. then TSM cut half a grapefruit for me and i bent over the sink and start shoving and squeezing half the grapefruit into my nose. my only regret is that we didn't have a camera handy, because i'm sure it was a hilarious sight to see. that seemed to do the trick. aside from the medley of food products i had to insert into my nose, the vegan corn chowder turned out great! i effing love this cookbook. i don't effing love jalapenos, though.
the rest of the weekend was good. visited with friends and family, tried a caramel praline latte (best latte ever, aside from the chai, of course), and saw Borat on friday night! you guys - YOU GUYS - you must, must, must see this. there is one scene in particular that didn't leave a dry eye in the house (and the house was sold out for every showing. luckily we got there early). you will know this scene when you see it. it may, possibly, be the funniest scene in cinematic history. but it is not for the faint of heart. or for the mature and serious. i am a bit afraid, because my parents plan on seeing it tomorrow. i am not sure i want my mom exposed to that (or maybe i should say those). it will be interesting to hear what she has to say. but aside from the complete immaturity and hilarity, i think Borat makes an interesting comment on American culture. there is a scene with a rodeo guy who is totally racist and homophobic that makes me cringe even thinking about it, and another scene with frat boys who are total misogynists. actually, they are sueing Borat because of how they appear on screen (like complete and utter bastards! i hope they lose).
this morning i woke up with a sick stomach, which immediately made me think i was pregnant. hello irrationality! i also had a slight headache, too, so i am thinking this is caused by a change of air pressure. some of the people on my flist from minnesota said they had migraines on saturday morning, and we usually get minnesota's weather a couple of days after. so maybe the change in air pressure/headaches in minnesota have travelled to toronto? this is highly unlikely, but it is amusing to think about.
lastly, i just want to tell my canadian ladies that The Second Cup has its holiday drinks out and one of them is called Vanilla Snowflake Chai. do with this information what you will.
