warning: no humour ahead

overall, it was a very fun weekend. my birthday party was a success. i think trinity899 captured most of the highlights on camera (and the lowlights, too. let's just say she took A LOT of pictures because she was A LOT drunk) i scored some amazing gifts, including a much-need umbrella and an AWESOME LARGE STARBUCKS TRAVEL MUG from mel that she had decorated herself! i also scored some great stickers, socks, and expandable pants from sarah, as well as - wait for it - a 2007 Office Wall Calender that includes huge pictures and hilarious anecdotes from the cast of The Office. i cannot wait until April 2007, if only because it means i get to stare at a large picture of jim for the entire month! the weekend was dampened, though, on sunday afternoon, when i had the odd inclination to check my work email. i don't usually do this, but for some odd reason i wanted to. i found out that The Big Boss Man (the director of our non-profit) passed away on friday night from cancer. this was a shock, because even though i knew he had it, i didn't realize how far along it was. he was only diagnosed in july! it's really sad. there is definitely a sombre atmosphere throughout the office today.

after i read the email, TSM and i went for a long, brisk walk in the park near our place that reminds me of a forest. it was great to get out into the cool, november air. it really clears the mind. the autumn leaves are past their peak, but it was still nice to experience Fall in nature, rather than my usual habitat of the concrete jungle. then i came home and made moroccan vegetable pie with a chickpea crust for dinner. it was incredibly laborious, but well worth it. i even lit candles at dinner! it was very classy (except i was wearing expandable pants and no make-up. i can only have so much class on a sunday night y'see). and then i spent the night watching football and crocheting dishcloths. i'm participating in a craft bazaar on november 18th so i'm churning out these dishcloths like mad. the positive side to this is that if i have any leftovers (an inevitability), i will just give them away as Christmas gifts.

and to end this depressing entry, i give you a funny story:

last night while we were sleeping, TSM grabbed my arm randomly. i was able to let go and then he turns to me and says "do you have MSN?" and then made this typing motion with his fingers. i knew instantly that he was talking in his sleep, so instead of saying "what?" i just said "yes". this seemed to satisfy his unconscious state and then he instantly fell asleep. it was so random and hilarious! i remember one time about a year ago, he woke me up and started pointing to our bedroom door and frantically saying "the figures aren't matching up!" and i didn't understand what he meant so then he got pissed off at me! i was left so confused, but now i understand that he is a sleeptalker. it can be irritating, but it can also be highly amusing.

weekend, friends, tsm, work
