my objective during yesterday's lunch break was to find a yoga mat that was under $30 and was preferably dark purple. and i found success at the health food store! once again, the hippies came through for me. it was actually cheaper than the ones i had seen at walmart. maybe this is the first time that anything has been cheaper at a store other than walmart. it was a bit awkward carting the yoga mat home while i was struggling with a canvas bag full of root vegetables (for last night's dinner) and listening to Journey on my ipod, but i managed. but when i got home, Snugs bit a hole through the mat! who knew that she had such angst toward finding inner peace and outward flexibility? she is more of a kickboxer i guess. anyway, i am very excited about the yoga class tomorrow night (but a bit nervous about the social aspect, i must admit). i am also excited because i am planning on wearing a purple t-shirt to the class WHICH WILL MATCH MY MAT.
but before i gets to thinking about tomorrow night, i must set my sights on this evening, for it is an extremely important one. tonight is the season premiere of Gilmore Girls! my excitement is a bit tainted by the fact i missed last season's finale, and aside from reading a recap online, still haven't seen it. i am really just hoping that lorelai and luke will break up and rory and logan will break up and the girls will be like they used to be, all watching movies and eating junk food and not letting boys interfere with their time together. because the show is called Gilmore GIRLS, not Gilmore Girls and Their Invasive Boyfriends, y'know?
speaking of how men screw everything up (i kid!)(or do i?), i started reading
The Birth House by Ami McKay. it is about a young woman living in Nova Scotia during WWI and her struggles with her desire to be a wife and mother against her desires to be a midwife. her lout of a husband doesn't want her to be a midwife and says that the new doctor who has arrived in their town should take over those duties, but of course the new doctor isn't as passionate or caring as a midwife could be. yes, this novel relies on old stereotypes like that, but it's sooooo goooood. there is just something about canadian literature with female protagonists in the pre-1950s that captures my attention. Susanna Moodie, Margaret Atwood, Margaret Lawrence, ALICE MUNRO, Carol Shields, Lynn Coady, Frances Itani, and about a million more. this is the stuff of life! or at least it is the stuff of good reading material.
but back to the subject at hand, like what kind of snack would be appropriate to have while watching GG? i am thinking something with apples.
