last week was a bit of a bummer, with the burnt scones and the grocery cart from hell and the miscommunication with TSM about the car keys. in hindsight, i can see that everything was exacerbated (big word!) by wacky hormones (ah, womanhood), but now i am feeling back to normal, especially since i had one of the best weekends i've had in a very long time.
on friday night, vanessa came over for a visit, with one goal in mind: to break her pumpkin creamcheese muffin virginity. i was more than happy to comply. coupled with a vanilla latte, it was perfection. it was a great night, too. great conversation, temperate weather, and finished off with a shared strongbow.
saturday,
trinity899 came over. we ate kraft dinner and watched Gilmore Girls and then i died of happiness. upon resurrection, we drove to the airport to pick up her mom. it was in the new terminal and i had never been there before. i was impressed by the technological advances. for one, in the parking garage, there were sensors over every space, so before you drove into a section, there was a digital count of how many free spaces were left. and the escalators were moving incredibly slowly, but once we stepped on, they sped up. technology is amazing and i love it! until my computer crashes and i hate it. i was reading an article in the new Marie Claire about how technology has made humans very demanding of life. like, when we want to know something IMMEDIATELY, it takes, on average, 5 minutes to find it on the net. and we're able to communicate with others so efficiently through email. because of this, it makes "real life" such a pain in the ass, so people are more easily aggravated and depressed. that is kind of a bummer to think about. anyway.
mel drove me back to my parents in st.catharines and i spent the rest of the afternoon with them. then i went back to mel's and hung out with her, D, sarah, and mike and watched Wildboyz, that show with Steve-o that's like Jackass except with animals. i actually preferred it to Jackass because of the animals. there was one particular episode that showed a baby sloth and it was, single-handedly, the cutest thing i had ever seen. it actually caused me pain because the cuteness was so unbearable. i'd really like to have a screenshot of it or something to put by my desk. forget pictures of TSM and Snugs, i gots to see the baby sloth!
anyway, the rest of the night involved steeped tea from Tim Horton's and a hyperactive round of Texas Holdem (i lost, mel won, and so goes life).
SUNDAY, mel and sarah came to pick me up (it was, indeed, a very social weekend) and we drove back to toronto. went shopping at the Eaton Centre, met up with TSM, Old Roommate, tom, and vanessa and went out for dinner at THE PICKLE BARREL. i hadn't eaten anything since breakfast so i was starving. had a mango smoothie and a grilled meditteranean sandwich. HUMINA. then we digested and went to Demetres for dessert. had two scoops of ice cream. HUMINA again. then we came back, everyone left, and i watched the premiere of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. it was on a canadian channel which explains why it aired a day early. those wacky, earnest canadians. i really liked it, though. i liked the character of Jordan a lot (played by Amanda Peet). she was a strong, focused female who didn't bow down to men. obvs, i liked that a lot. a little bit of female empowerment is the perfect way to end an almost perfect weekend.
and now i am here at work trying to figure out how to get rid of the smell (yes, another smell) in our stinky staffroom fridge. this life is too glamorous for me, i swear!
