last night, as i was laying in bed trying to fall asleep even though i had just had some tea (idiot), i made a mental recap of my weekend, partly because it is always nice to recap one's weekend on a sunday night and also partly because i wanted to make sure i didn't miss out any good parts while writing my weekend recap in here. lame? of course. but would you have it any other way?
for your reading pleasure, i will now proceed to recap it by dividing the weekend into days, and by using the bold and CAPS LOCK function.
FRIDAY: i am not sure if Friday qualifies as part of the weekend, but it definitely feels like the weekend, so we will just go with that. after eating a pound of pizza (TSM ate the other pound) and reading about happiness, we went for an extended walk around the neighbourhood and magically ended up at starby's. that is not a difficult feat to conquer, considering they are everywhere. i had a grande non-fat chai while TSM had the strawberry blended cream and we shared a ginger molasses cookie. we so crazies on a friday night! then we got even crazier and went to Indigo to browse books and magazines. there are so many books out there left to be read, it's awfully intimidating. i keep a notebook in my purse and copy down titles that interest me (and which i will, cheaply, reserve at the library instead of purchasing), but i still find it all very overwhelming.
SATURDAY: TSM dropped me off at the restaurant and proceeded to st.catharines while i had lunch with my mom, grandma, and aunt joan. i ordered a very lacklustre portobello mushroom/zucchini/brie grilled sandwich. a sandwich like that has so much potential, but the restaurant royally screwed it up. for those uninterested in food, please ignore the following. firstly, the sandwich used a very thin, white, toasted bread. it SHOULD have used a nice foccacia or ciabatta; something that you can really dig your teeth into, y'know? secondly, they put tomato and lettuce on this sandwich, when it would have been much more complementary to have put, say, some roasted red peppers or roasted eggplant on it. tomato and lettuce just made the sandwich drippy, wet, and difficult to eat. thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, there was not enough effing brie on the sandwich. this was a dire mistake. and lastly, the coleslaw that came with was made with lettuce instead of cabbage (yes, you read that right) and the dressing had absolutely no flavour. it would have been tastier if they had used the pre-made coleslaw dressing from Kraft.

the rest of the day was enjoyable, though. spent time with my parents, looked at photographs from 1987 (my favourite year), and then went to vanessa's for a campfire where i overdosed on smores and smartfood, and realized i can balance potato chips on my chest! it is always good to discover new things about yourself. vanesa had a couple of friends from glasgow there, so we talked a bit about scotland. well, THEY talked about scotland and i just salivated over their accents.
SUNDAY: slept in and had a very light, detoxifying sort of breakfast to expel all of the toasted marshmallow from my system. went to Walmart and the dollar store, two of my favourite guilty pleasures of suburbia, and bought SCADS of yarn. yes. SCADS. i am crocheting an obscene amount of dishcloths to sell at a craft fair with a few of my friends this Christmas. i know, i can't believe i am already thinking of Christmas, but i'd really like to get all of my shopping/crafting done before December (you may say i'm a dreamer but i'm not the only one) because i just really want to enjoy Christmas and not brave the malls AT ALL in December. i love Christmas and i do enjoy shopping, but i HATE Christmas shopping. i have a visceral reaction when i even THINK about shopping in December. the crowds, the heat of wearing your winter coat in a hot mall with SCADS of people surrounding you, being loaded down with bags while damning your life to hell...no thank you.
we got back to toronto around 3:30 and i made up some stuffed peppers for dinner and then baked some scones using
checkersumthing's recipe, except i used half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat, and i substituted chopped apple and cinnamon for the raisins. they are very delicious, but aren't "scones" and "delicious" redundant in the same sentence?
and being the awards show slut that i am, OF COURSE i watched The Emmy's. i thought Conan did a great job, especially in the opening sequence and the monologue. i am really happy that The Office won Best Comedy, but couldn't believe Barry Manilow won in the same category that had Stephen Colbert! and what is up with Tony Shaloub constantly winning in his category? does anybody even WATCH Monk? I mean, seriously, folks. WTF. i am also happy that i got to see john krasinski up on stage, all wearing a suit and looking something fine. mmmeeeeeoooowwww.
i also managed to see BB7, too, because my television-watching skills are multi-faceted and very advanced.
and now the weekend is over and all i have to look forward to in life is a cup of coffee! isn't that the way it goes.
