So this is me being Ms Party Planner. Although I am a suki in organizing simple get-togethers such as barkada gimmicks, out of towns, baby/bridal showers, I never thought I could actually be an EVENT organizer. And this is no small event, this is a DEBUT. I remember adamantly refused to organize one since my own debut, but here I am spearheading what I think would even be one of my biggest challenges at the moment.
I think this stint began with Shierlly's baby shower, though that one I thoroughly enjoyed the planning and execution process (the complaining came later on). Project Raia is proven to be a different animal on its own. I am even fondly naming my mom, Mrs. P&G, a tribute to one of my companies most difficult clients.
My mom is the type who overanalyzes things, so yes, naturally I had to become Ms Direct, and steer her to the right direction. I already, with a Sunday afternoon's worth of negotiation skills, had locked her down into deciding the date, theme, budget, and approximate number of expect guests. My OC-controling self is at wits end developing a shopping list for mom just so she could decide on the venue, which is assigned for this week, according to my timetable.
But then again in the process, I soon discovered that I underestimated my mother. Once I got the ball rolling, she became Mrs TOO Direct. She had this own idea of how the debut should look like and is miles different from what my sister, the debutant, and I imagine. My mom has this idea of a traditional, old fashioned debut, but ofcourse, my punky rocker sister is against all that.
I once told her, in anger, "Kanino bang debut ito, sa yo or kay Raia?"
From the dress, the music, the food, the souveniers... everyday was a shouting match between the two of us. It took forever to settle on everything because everytime we submit something for her approval, she would wail and complain and change EVERYTHING we've done. She wanted everything done HER WAY. No matter what new idea we suggest (from past parties and events we've attended), she wanted her own traditonal way
So you could imagine... this is the client from hell.
It was a good thing may mga stuff that I managed to make braso to her. There were also stuff I had a good idea about that she knew nothing of (like the photographer, etc).
I felt I could never satisfy her and never please her. When I get my way, I'll feel guilty for disobeying her.
And so BIG DAY came. My debutant sister was being a diva, walking around the house ranting that she didn't want to have a debut anymore, etc. And the only consolation thing she wanted was to have beer at the party (mom adamantly REFUSED to have alcohol served).
And here was my mom dictating everything! Stress.
And her I was flitting to and fro. Medyo kalat din ako yesterday, but HEY! This is my first big event naman :)
But in the end, I was happy I got through it. And I think at some point everyone was a winner yesterday:
#1 - Mom got her party
#2 - My sister got her alcohol and a lot of her friends came
#3 - I got my first experience in organizing something big
#4 - My dad will be getting his peace and quiet after this hell 2 months
