It's another rainy day in Florida. But it's a good day. We went to Coconut Point for Father's Day and had lunch at Bice Cafe. I had the most amazing herb-crusted salmon salad. I couldn't finish it, but I had enough room for the yummy creme brule we had for desert.
Meg and I split off from Mom, Dad and Trey to do some shopping. I spent more than I meant to, but I got some really cute things for work. They'll be good for my newspaper job and for teaching when I get to Korea.
Okay, so a few more details about Korea. Or, at least, what I know so far. I was hired by Berlitz Korea. I'll be living in Seoul, South Korea teaching English to business professionals. Most of my students will be adults, but I might have to teach a few kids' classes. I might also have to go to businesses and teach on site. I don't know when I'm going or where in Seoul I'll be stationed yet (there are five schools in Seoul). I do know that the earliest I could get there is late October, so depending on how fast I get my visa, I could be in Korea by Oct. 20. I'll have my own apartment when I first get there, but I'll have to move out of company housing before it's been three months. I'll have the choice to rent my own place or move in with roommates after that. (And Berlitz pays for most, if not all, of my rent. Yay!) But yea, that's about all I know for now. Oh, and a friend of mine from JBU is going to be living in Seoul for a year starting July 25, so we're making plans to get together when I get over there and hang out a lot.
I do know that I won't be at Otakon 2008 or any cons this year (besides Otakon 2007), which is kind of sad. I don't know if I'll keep up with cosplay while I'm over there. I won't really have a sewing machine unless I buy one, and I have no idea what kind of free time I'll have. But I suppose I could stand to take a year-long break from making any cosplays. I might take a couple outfits with me, just in case I make friends with any cosplayers or go to any cons. I really have no idea what the anime/cosplay culture is like over there, so we'll see how that goes. I might try seeking out some cosplayers on Cosplay.com before I go.
Moving on to other things.... I worked a lot on Kate yesterday. I got the dress completely put together and the blue trim pinned on. I started sewing some of the trim on, but it was getting late, so I quit before I got finished. I'm debating on whether or not I want to work on it more today. I probably should, just to make sure I keep up my head start. I toyed with making the over collar today and then working on the habits next weekend. Other than that, I still need to sew the buttons to the front of the dress (or actually go get them. I'm sure they've been in forever by now...) and make the petticoat. I'm thinking of using the leftover half of a bed sheet that I have from my first Sister Kate and making a quick, slim petticoat to wear under the dress. I thought about re-making my gloves too since I notice the crosses looked blue in the picture I have. But the lazy, stingy part of me is saying that everyone else has made the gloves with red crosses so don't worry about it. (Even though my current gloves are slightly ghetto. We'll see how quick I get the rest of the outfit done before I make a decision.)
Eh, I guess I'll go work on Kate. At least get all the trim sewed on. It's still raining outside and I can't think of anything better to do...
