Star Wars: the Old Republic

About 12 years ago, I was an EverQuest fanatic. EverQuest was one of the first generation of its kind: a big-budget, graphics-intensive, Massively Multiplayer, Online, and (theoretically) Role-playing Game.  Its precursors were the text-based Multi-Use Dungeons, which had been around since the 80s with much the same mechanics but no graphics to ( Read more... )

This is where I plan out my future action bar use.

The smuggler really, really needs UI mods. Hopefully they will be available in the near future! Specifically, it's not easy enough to see my Upper Hand proc stacks and I want to be able to track my Slow-Release Medpacs on a target so I know when I need to refresh them.

I know for a fact that COH allows you to pile up action bars, but even so, I only ever used shift-number to access a second set. SWTOR is the first game that's made me go to ctrl-number to access a THIRD set.

I don't think it's good that it's so complicated...

But, I have to admit that it kicks tail when my smuggler, being attacked by some random thug, kicks him in the 'hyperdrive' (Dirty Kick), goes behind him, hauls out his scattergun and blasts him in the back. (Back Blast), then Pistol Whips to finish him off, gaining Upper Hand to unleash Blaster Volley on his buddies. Even if I could just have used Thermal Grenade, waited, and used Thermal Grenade again.

Yeah, in CoH I usually had two or three power bars open, but almost everything I used in combat was on one.

I combed over my current power list and set up three bars with ranged/heal/melee and an alternate cover bar. Most of them are only two-thirds full, but I figured (a) the keys after 6 are not much easier to hit than shift-1 or ctrl_1 and (b) I'm going to get MOAR POWERS anyway, as you pointed out.

Trying to fit everything on one bar seemed futile. x.x

Oh -- I don't actually have 'cover' on a slot. You can hotkey 'cover' separate of the slot bars, so it's on F for me.

And I didn't understand how Upper Hand worked until you were describing it incidentally. So I read the descriptions on all the powers while I was at it, and now maybe kind of understand the theory. Using it in practice -- yikes. @.@

Yea, the reason I have cover on a slot is because if you cover, you're going to pop up two new skills anyway, and you want them to be in spots that are easy to hit, and won't conflict with anything you'd have used otherwise.

Upper Hand will proc from both your direct heal and from Pistol Whip, which is handy for solo questing and does decent damage. Glad that my explanation was a help! I'll argue that smugglers really need a good UI for this kind of stuff.

Also, the gaming icon you drew for me is totally a Scoundrel Smuggler. ^_^
