Yeah, I think Vista has implemented something like this, but I personally don't care for it. Not just because I'm irrationally averse to change (though I'm sure that's a large part of it), but because not only does it feel as though it's merely an overlay on the existing wonky structure, but it feels like hand-holding to me, and I hate that in an operating system. I've become rather self-sufficient over the years when working with computers, and most attempts by operating systems to "make things easier" on me just serves to annoy me. And I don't just mean Clippy and his ilk. (Hmmm... I may have to write an entire entry about this...)

RYN@OD: He's one of those annoyingly complex characters that you WANT to like, but he thwarts every attempt at doing so, as a means of self-defense on his part. Though at the outset he just comes across as a sarcastic grumpy know-it-all. I find it fascinating on a psychological level, but I also like his Sherlock Holmes-like deductions. (I'm told he's loosely based on that character. I don't quite see it, but then I've not read much Sherlock Holmes, I hate to admit.) I consider it to be one of those shows that it's not easy to jump into mid-series, not because of the narrative (though there is one), but because they tend to "raise the stakes"* in later episodes, which are harder to take without knowing what preceeded it.

(* - A poor analogy of this might be how on the show "South Park" they've ramped up the vulgarity and offensiveness with each subsequent season, but it's more tolerable if one has already dealt with the earlier controversies of the show.)
