So I know this NBD to those of you that have already gone to and finished school, but for those of us (ME) that had to postpone a formal continuing education to work long and hard for peanuts (not penis in ref: to "long and hard") it is.
I now find myself trying to figure out where I will come up with some caching to continue my education. Because my chosen career field as few options (none in Boise) to go to an accredited school; I will not be able to get a traditional student loan. Meaning: 1) Higher interest rates, and 2) less borrowing potential. And there is, of course, the fact that it pays very damned little to out in the middle of the freezing night and scoop some drunk @sshole off of the pavement and haul his half living carcass to the nearest trauma center! Meaning the pay off will only be lifestyle and job satisfaction, not monetary.
If I can get in this program when I finish I will be a nationally certified paramedic which gives me a hell-of-a-lot of portability should I ever need to move. But, not wanting to go anywhere buts the kibosh on the portability. Also, being a paramedic makes one far and away more likely to get into a fire dept. (A shit ton of guys have become medics just to get hired by an FD). But, I find myself questioning whether or not I still want to be a hose-dragger, that and the Fire/Medics tend to be "Jack of all trades; master of none" kinda guys. Medics can take a year long (intensive) bridge course to become an RN, should I tire f the afore mentioned waking in the middle of the night. But if did an RN I would just try to get into the ER anyway so I'd still have to deal w/ the drunk @ssholes. (seams no matter what path I chose I have to deal w/ drunks (Bouncer/Firefighter/Medic/ER RN...) *end vent*
