Good morning, everyone who wasn't born in a bounded world. Why don't How about that snow?

So, tomorrow is Christmas. I'm sure that, ideally, most of us would be spending it with our families. Or our friends, at the very least. But then, our lives include an ancient tree with a shitty truly awful sense of humour.

Forgive me for asking (and for intruding, rest assured, I will not ruin your party) but what is Christmas?

For some people it's a religious holiday, but for most people where I come from it's just a chance to get together with your family and friends. You exchange presents and have a big meal and spend time with each other. The general idea is peace on Earth and good will toward Men.

Why would you ruin it? You could come if you Are you saying you don't Maybe she doesn't want to come.

It's not an intrusion. I don't mind your questions.

A festival to a god?

Sort of, but not the way you know them. A lot has changed.

People believe in God, but it's more an idea and not so much a physical being. Just one God, not lots of them, and not as petty as most of yours were. People aren't things to play with. I'm not a theologian, and this isn't even my religion. I'm probably not the best person to ask. Most of my knowledge of Christmas came from a friend who was Jewish - also not the religion this holiday comes from. I'm focusing on the social aspect. Most people do now.

If you have more questions, I could try and answer them. I know the basics. You should talk to someone who's Christian, though. That's the religion that celebrates Christmas now as anything more than a social gathering. Of course, they adapted it from pagan winter festivals.

I suppose it's more of a slow progression from one set of holiday practices to the next and less an entirely new holiday.

I appreciate the invitation, but people don't seem to like me.

I'll probably regret this, but Why do you think people don't like you?

People always fear what they don't understand. A universal truth.

Of course, it doesn't help that everyone, including our fearless leader, chooses to get their information about me from Ianto's half-cocked, romanticized versions of my life story, rather than just asking me.

People are certainly wary of what they don't understand.

If you want people to like you, then why don't you let them understand you?

I'm not looking for popularity. I don't care if people like me or dislike me. I simple want, as all people, respect. But it's not worth the effort and I certainly won't fawn over the popular members of our society to get it.

I don't think you have to fawn over anyone. But if people can't embrace what they don't understand, I doubt that many people can respect what they don't understand.

If you don't feel it's worth the effort, I'm not trying to tell you that it is. But I think if you want people to put energy into knowing you, then you have to put energy into knowing them.

I'm sure you could let people understand you without fawning over them. Besides, if you weren't being honest about how you felt about them, they wouldn't really be getting to know you. I don't think many people would want that. Not many people worth getting to know, anyway.

You see? Right there. You're dismissing what I said like it doesn't have value. I'm trying to talk to you, to understand you, and you just don't seem to care. I don't dislike you, but I can't like you if I don't know you, and and you seem to really not want people to know you.

Thank you.
