The Rift has done any number of exceedingly strange things, but it has never been known to pull someone from his deathbed and then heal him before depositing him in a different world. There have been no reports of a Rowan tree either, despite its various mythological connections. I can't explain this, and I can explain everything.

I don't like this.

Start with the basics. The Rowan tree is alien in origin. Unsurprising: many components of common legends are. The demons are not surprising either, though their appearance is. A different race within the same species? Shape-shifters?
