Mikney dropped back, accordingly. Not that there was any particularly engaging conversation happening between himself, Sonic and Cherry; and if they spoke, he'd be able to hear it anyhow. They probably would forget how sharp an Elf's hearing was.

But, once back with her, he had no idea what to say.

This was the farthest adrift he'd ever been from the Family. And he had no idea how to break it to Quahl.

For a moment, Cordy seemed unsure of what to say as well. She had a feeling that she'd somehow managed to mess up Mikney's life as well. For a moment, she stood still as she let the others walk on ahead. She chewed on her lower lip as she thought of what to say.

"I'm really sorry," she decided upon eventually. Simple. Classic. Always a good option. "I didn't mean to make things worse for you and I think I might have."

She'd made them worse for herself too, of course, but she had no one to blame for that.

"In this case, my actions are my own," said Mikney, "and no one can take responsibility for them but me." And therein lay the problem.

Quahl would be angry.

But then, Quahl wasn't in the best position with the Family herself, right now.

And wasn't that a traitorous thought.

He ducked his head, briefly, and looked to her. "All we can do is what feels right at the time," he said, "for whatever reason."

Cordelia laughed, and was almost surprised at the noise. She hadn't expected to laugh so soon. "What feels right?" she said with a wry smile. "You have no idea how many times I've managed to get myself into trouble by doing what feels right." Or doing who felt right, but that was a whole different matter that was fairly certain Mikney would be uncomfortable discussing.

"Either way, it seems that I've managed to isolate myself from everyone." She shrugged slightly and added in a rather matter-of-fact tone "And I'm pretty sure that this means Cherry and I are going to break up. How hard is it going to be to find a new place to live?"
