Slipping. Thin, a flash, like a fish skimming through water. Twisting along currents. She (he) slithers sideways through the world. Rock like sand underneath her (his) palm (mind). Water like wisps of cloud. Air like nothing, nothing at all ( Read more... )

It was raining.

Which, was totally ok in his book, but this was a very nice rain, even by Demyx standards. He left his lute inside when he walked through it, looking up at the sky as it dropped down. He hadn't been entirely sure Rowan had rain like this- after all, most of the rainstorms had been fierce and followed by bad news. This was a bit of a relief.

He stopped near where Elimyr had been captive- he'd gone to look every so often, to see if she was still there. And she was still there now. Just... out of the bubble.

It took him a moment to decide if he should approach. He eventually did, taking a few slow steps toward her. "Elimyr?"

She had her eyes closed. Palms upturned to meet the rain, and as she inhaled, exhaled, the earth shivered underneath her feet.

She turned, opening her eyes, at the name. The name. Her name?

Yes.

Maybe.

"Demyx," she said, and her voice was lower, a hint more musical than it ever was before.

That was a good sign- or at least, he thought it was. Demyx really had no idea what was going on right now, or what she was thinking or feeling or anything, but that was no different from normal he never did and wasn't very good at guessing.

"Hi," he said awkwardly, taking a step closer, "Are you alright?"

She looked to him, and something about her was still, was calm.

"You don't feel much, do you?" she asked.

Somehow, that simple statement and simple expression was creepier to him than anything she did while with the mermaids.

"Is that a rhetorical question?" he asked.

A little, quiet shake of her head.

"No," she told him. "It isn't."

Demyx sighed, plopping down on the wet ground a few feet away from her. "So... that means I have to answer?"

He knew the answer. He did but he didn't like to say it. It made it seem so final, to him, like it wasn't even worth pretending that he felt something if he just said that he didn't. Especially in a place where it would be impossible for him to get his heart.

"If you like."

She clasped her hands behind her back. Hair wet with the rain, now, in clumps around her shoulders. Washing away everything.

She doesn't plan on forcing him to answer.

Demyx wasn't sure what that meant, so he stayed quiet for a minute or two longer before finally answering. "No... not really."

Congratulations, Elimyr, because you are the first person who Demyx has admitted to being a Nobody too. Even if he knew you already knew.

"What do you want to do about that?" Quiet, probing, genuinely curious. "Because it's easier to leave it as it is."

Well, obviously. If he left it like that then he wouldn't have to do anything. That seemed quite alright to him, the not doing anything part. That was pretty much what he wanted to do in the Organization. But in the Organization, they were still working to get hearts.

Basically, this was a hard question.

"I don't know," was his final answer, "There's not really much I can do here anyway, right?" Except exist, until the darkness decided it couldn't hold itself together anymore and dispersed, leaving him completely as nothing.

"There may be a way," she says, and she frowns. "I don't know. I'd have to think about it." She doesn't have the expertise, exactly, but she thinks -- she's fairly sure that she has the power. That she might be able to allow him something.

But, then again, maybe she can't.

Demyx's head whipped up so fast that it actually hurt a little. "Really?" he asked, wincing as he rubbed the back of his neck. Ow. He really needed to not do that again. But she's surprised him, as much as he could be surprised. He hadn't seen any spare hearts around, after all.

"The nature of magic is to create," says Elimyr. "Not to destroy."

But she doesn't know if she can create something like that. Breathe life into a soul that's made of black.

"Well, yea, but..." He trailed off with a somewhat frustrated sigh, obviously not sure how to deal with a situation. Eventually, Demyx asked again, "Are you doing ok?"

Subjective question. Okay. You. The you that Demyx means isn't the you that she is, anymore.

"Fine," she lies.
