Late in the evening on Monday (not that it's easy to tell time, that far under the water), there's a disturbance, in the mermaids swimming around. A few flashes of light overhead, and then nothing; it gets dark, as normal.
Hours later, another bubble floats down to join the worldwalkers'. In it, a slightly singed human-form mermaid holds a woman pinned; the smaller bubble melds into the larger, and the woman is pitched inside, landing hard on her hands and knees.
Outside the bubble, the human-form mermaid transforms, with the touch of her hand to a jeweled necklace, around her face; the necklace glows, for a moment, and scales crawl up her skin, to her waist. She swims away; the woman, on the bottom of the bubble, stirs.
The woman has bold red hair, pale skin, and -- yes; she has thin gill-slits, just under the line of her collarbones, visible through her ripped and dirty clothing.
