Guy settled down, in the back of the clearing, for once at rest -- he didn't have anything he was carving, weaving together, fixing. He was interested, he was paying attention, but he was withdrawn.

Temeraire looked around curiously at the crowd and noticed the silent man. He would have called his name, but he did not know what it was, so he stuck his neck out and said, "Hello, again."

Guy reached up, stroking a hand along Temeraire's snout, in greeting. He liked the dragon, oddly enough. Gargantuan, strange, completely out of anything resembling Guy's world. But, then, that's why he wanted to explore space in the first place.

Temeraire inched as much closer as he could and nuzzled back. As much as he enjoyed talking to anyone who would stand still long enough for a conversation, Guy's presence was particularly comforting for some reason.

Perhaps it was because he couldn't easily pump Guy for information, which while important and something that came naturally to Temeraire, often made him a bit anxious, since there were so many new and confusing thing to learn about.

Guy leaned against Temeraire, cautiously settling himself in. Because the surprisingly nice texture of dragonhide was a vast improvement over leaning against a tree, and he didn't mind the movement of the dragon's sides as he breathed. But if Temeraire gave any sign that he didn't want Guy there, Guy would back off. The last thing he wanted was an upset or hostile dragon.

If Temeraire didn't think too closely about what was actually going on, he could almost forget that he wasn't even at home, that it wasn't Laurence leaned up against his side. But of course it wasn't, though he was used to many different people from his crew leaning against him, and even having several smaller dragons sprawl on top of it when circumstances demanded. He tried to make himself relax, only not too much, because he was still in a new and unsettling environment.

He did unfurl a wing a bit in case Guy needed a shield against the entirely nonexistent weather.

That seemed like a relatively good sign. The wing unfurling. Unless it was a reflexive hostile response, which seemed unlikely, as the dragon wasn't tensing up or anything.

All right, then.

He patted Temeraire, in thanks.
