Who: River Royal, everyone else ever
What: The Demon offer
Where: prison
When: Wednesday midafternoon
Notes: Each cell tag in a different thread.
River Royal strides into the prison midafternoon on the day after the battle.
He smiles, upon entrance; the demon guards, tired, a bit injured, dirty from the passage underground all immediately straighten. Brighten, in some indefinable way, like his presence was all they needed to recover from the exhaustion of battle.
"Friends," he says, to them. Then, to the other cells: "Friends. If I could have your attention."
-- and that's all he has to do. He has everyone's attention, now. Even those who were asleep have awakened at the sound of his voice.
"My name is River Royal," he says, "and the army that has just defeated you is mine."
There's unmistakable pride in his voice, at this; there's unmistakable pride, too, in the demons around the cells.
"We are mostly demons," he says, "as you may probably see, and we hold our allegiance to the Demon Kingdom. And we are demon - but we are also human, and dwarf; dryad and oread; naiad and sylph. We are mage and witch and sorcerer, too. And we are not here to imprison you."
He steps further inside the jail; it feels as though everyone's breath is caught, waiting for his words.
"One of the Demon Kingdom aches to see anther living creature imprisoned," he tells them, and his voice is lower, now, pitched as though it was personal, straight from him to each individual in the room. "We strive only for freedom, and we give it freely, to ally and enemy alike."
He pauses. "My shaman tells me that each of you is gifted with magic," he says, "but that you are fledgling, hardly even manifested yet. Every child knows that magic manifests in the very young. Anything else..." Another pregnant pause, and now his voice is quiet, softly appalled. "What have they done to you? What have the Elves changed about you, that this would happen now?"
Another step inside. "It's no matter," he says. "That you have these abilities gives you the choice to use them as you will. And so, friends, I offer you this: we will let you free of this prison, allow you run of the city as you will. There are those here who could help train you, help you grow properly into your powers. All we ask in return is that you do not act against us."
He lets that sink in.
"I will speak with each of you individually," he says, "at which time you may give me your answer."
He'll come by each cell one by one. Feel free to tag accordingly.
