It's that time of year again. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, everything turns green... Well, not exactly and not for some two months, but still, it's the dreaded time to sow seeds for certain plants and flowers for summer if one wishes blooming before it's frost again.
And once again I'm facing the same dilemma as every year. To sow or not? Cause every year I end up filling every available tabletop with plant pots and trays for weeks on end and I always estimate the coming of real summer wrongly so I either can't plant the seedlings outside when they are right size or I'm too late with everything. And we don't even really have good places for seedlings as there's not enough light so they tend to grow over-tall and pale and not too sturdy.
Every year I decide I must be rational. Some, like 100 pots isn't rational. But how to choose, and what is too much? And we keep getting these wonderful seed catalogues that are filled with new varieties and exciting things...
There are only two things that are an absolute must: nasturtiums and sunflowers. I tend to exaggerate with my nasturtiums, but I hope this time I only manage to restrain myself and buy only one pouch of only one variety. No more!
When I'm rich and famous (or at least rich), we are going to have this conservatory for year-round greenery in our house. That would solve my problem also with non-winter-standing perennials, which I have avoided so far because we don't have the means to give the plants a resting period in "a cool, well-lit place".
Well, perhaps I can wait for a little while and satiate my enthusiasm by visitng our little garden and see if there are any tulips or other bulbs growing already...
