Well, it seems more of the cast for the next film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been confirmed. How nice. :) Still waiting for word if Gary Oldman will still be Sirius Black. Rumour (and his representatives) says he won't.

Also I'm getting more and more interested in the upcoming tv series Brotherhood. The teaser photos are *ahem* ( Read more... )

It still bugs me that actors playig Remus, Sirius and Snape are too old. They are supposed to be in their mid thirties, not sixty like Alan Rickman.

By the book 5, probably forty or so. Perhaps dark magic is not good for one's complexion? ;)

Well, Sirius has a reason to look old. He's been in Azkaban... And Remus has a reason too. Snape doesn't.

Actually Remus is both in PoA and OotP described looking young.

The stranger was wearing an extremely shabby set of wizard's robes that had been darned in several places. He looked ill and exhausted. Though quite young, his light brown hair was flecked with gray. (PoA, page 59 paperback)

Though still quite young, Lupin looked tired and rather ill: he had more gray hair than when Harry had said good-bye to him, and his robes were more patched and shabbier than ever. (OotP, 47 hc)

And no mention of either moustache or scars. I'm a book purist.

I wonder if someone actually likes him with the moustache? Eww.

"Young" is a relative attribute.
When I was 20, I used to call a 25 years old people young.
Now I call people in their early forties young.
And JKR is slightly older than I am, so perhaps she uses the same logic. Always call those people young who are bit older than you, so you can feel young yourself. ; )

And I thought I am a book purist. I think I came second. ; )

But Harry who is actually seeing him is 13 and 15 so I suppose Remus doesn't look older than twenty.

JKR may be a good writer, but perhaps she didn't think about it that way and saw it through her own eyes?

Why oh why did I start arguing about Potter with Mitzi? I should have known better...; )

I don't think they are too old. Like Rowanna said, I remember that they have been described being in their early forties and Thewlis at least is excatly that. Oldman is a bit older (44 when they were filming Azkaban), but he is supposed to look older than he relly is.
Rickman clearly is too old for his role, but he is otherwise so great and just perfect Snape that I don't complain at all.

To me actor's real age isn't that important. It's other qualities that count.

JKR has said that Sirius was twenty two when he went to Azkaban. That was 1981 so he would have been 35 in 1994/95 when PoA takes place.

James became a father quite young then. But why not? : )
(If I remember correctly that James, Remus and Sirius were born in a same year. They were classmates, eh?)
