I am caught between extremely anxious and elated. I have that lump in my throat and that growl in my stomach and I wish I were doing better and I wish I wasn't slipping into bad habits due to stress, like the ones that get me in trouble with my doctor. My focus is on one thing and everything else seems to be falling apart around it, so I have to deal with being happy about how my film is going, and stressed about how I wish I was doing better in my other classes. It is all so much work to balance and stay sane. In the end, my film is the most important thing that I do because it is what I will show the world after I graduate to prove what I am capable of doing. But my Law class is all quizzes and I suck at tests for some reason. My Advanced Post Production class is interesting, and I am learning a lot, I am just not very good at editing. I think it takes a lot of practice and I am not naturally talented at it like some people are, so I need to work harder. It makes me nervous because I am editing my film, but I have left plenty of time to do it so I know I can send edits to my mentor and he will give me suggestions on what to improve.
I have gotten a lot done these past couple of weeks for my film, being a producer and director is hard. Things that I have had to get done.
Do character work (motivations, subtext) as well as establish beats and overall arc and feel for the entire piece.
Create a shot by shot shooting list (including all of the camera angles and composition for each moment of the 17 page film.)
Create a floor plan for all 13 scenes as well as a storyboard
Creating a shooting script which includes what camera angles are going to be shooting which parts of the film
Picking auditions sides
Reserving a location and times to hold two days of auditions (one weekday and one weekend)
Posting the casting call and fielding over 200 e-mails, scheduling as many people as possible into 15 minute audition slots
Hold two 6 hour days of auditions
Lock down two locations (an office and a theatre stage) for two separate days of shooting, coordinate this with your cast and crew so everyone is available.
oh find and hire a crew (Director of Photography, Gaffer, Sound Mixer, Title and Credits designer).
Make schedules, call sheets and arrange the best order of scenes to shoot and give each an alloted amount of time to get each shot done.
Get all needed props, set dressing etc.
Rent needed equipment (lighting kits, cameras, stabilizers, lenses, microphones, etc.)
Saturday we start shooting. I am excited and also just want it to be over, because then the hardest parts will be over.
