He's the one to call when you feel good

Yesterday was hard and depressing. On my way home from watching Angel and having dinner with my parents, I came across a wild rabbit on the road that had been hit by a car but was still alive. Its legs were squished, but it was trying to move and gets itself off of the road, and I couldn't leave him there to get his head busted open by another car. So I pulled over, and took a look, he was indeed very much still alive, and I knew where the nearest emergency hospitol was, so I took off my jacket, picked him up, and got in my car and started off as fast as I could. It struggled in my arms, I am not sure what I expected the vet to do, but I just knew I couldn't leave him there, if he was going to die, it wouldn't be on the road.
I got to the hospitol, but he had stopped moving, I held him up, and he shock his head and let out two more breaths, but then he was gone. I took him inside anyways, to make sure he was dead and to hopefully have them take care of the body, and throw away my jacket which they thankfully did both. Blood soaked through onto my pants too, and my hands, I cried, it was all very sad...but at least I knew the little guy passed with someone trying to help him.
The vet said it was very nice of me, and Mike said I had a big heart...I just can't believe someone would hit a poor little bunnie and just keep driving, who knows how long he had been there when I drove by, his suffering could have been much shorter. I have never hit an animal with my car, I would rather get in an accident myself, take responsiblity for the damage I choose to inflict on the natural world.
Anyways I am still pretty torn up about it. It is the first time I have ever had something die in my arms.
Otherwise, before that, I filed for my student aid...yippie *that was a quarter hearted attempted joy*

animals, emergency, hit and run, death, rabbits, accidents, federal financial aid, graduate school, wild animals, road kill, cars
