Well, I'm actually in a bit of a Sanctuary mood after watching 1x09-1x10 (Requiem was awesome!), and while I haven't seen the episode this is a postscript to and know nothing about Kate, I can definitely appreciate this. You did a wonderful job of conveying Helen's combination of cageyness and vulnerability, and I love her response to "What's home to you?" Beautiful imagery, too -- "the sun highlighting the older woman's freckles", "The ripple in Magnus's words makes Kate want to hold her breath."
Glad to be reading your stuff again! :) makes me nostalgic for your X/A. :D

Isn't "Requiem" brilliant?? It's still one of my all time favorites. I've watched "Requiem" and "Next Tuesday" more than any other eps, I think. I can recite most of the lines, I know that much.:D

LOL! Well, I guess I'm flattered, since I can't imagine how this would make much sense without the ep (and the season in general). So, thank you.:)

Aw, thank you.:) With complete selfishness, and having not a leg to stand on in my rewatch Epic Fail, I still really can't wait to see what you think of "Interview With the Protege".:)
Oh, sure, you'll let her read Interview without yet having seen "Haunted," but I had to talk you into letting me start it (with the beta-carrot and the I'm-gonna-do-it-anyway stick).
:D Come on, I haven't had a chance to pick on you too much lately.
And hey, there's always time. We've had a rather slow start to the rewatch, and we've been starting squee threads for individual episodes rather than having one long rewatch thread. They've taken off, too -- we have several newcomers now, and so far everyone's been sticking pretty much to the rules of squee threads. Myself, I've kind of started a re- rewatch, since I watched the first two episodes of Robin Hood yesterday with dreamer_98 and they kind of grow on me with each run-through ... which I know you've actually watched those two several times too.
*babbles* ... LK, I'm thinking we may want to have feedback methods besides board threads, considering how many people I've (*cough*) recruited now who may not post ... we'll think of something, though.
Oh, just...squeak. XD That is what my brain is doing right now. That and trying to resist the very strong urge to hug the computer. I cannot begin to describe how much I love this, for you have picked up on a vibe through season 3 that has made me so joyful! Kate is such a tricky character and so many people misunderstand her. Then there's that strange balancing act of Helen as maternal and Helen as lover and Helen as all she portrays. I think they both love the puzzle of each other. But this. Wonderful.

Despite the lateness of my reply (due to vacation chaos), this comment just made my day at the time.:) Thank you.
Then there's that strange balancing act of Helen as maternal and Helen as lover and Helen as all she portrays.Yes. That's one of the most fascinating and beautiful aspects of her character for me. The way she can't be bound by traditional societal rules. Like the Helen/Will thing...people get squicked because she held him on her lap when he was 8 years old. But Helen runs in somewhat limited circles (of those who know about abnormals) and if she limited her choice of lovers to only those she never knew about until they were 30 something her market would very quickly shrink. She has to be fluid about it, to be able to be mother first, lover next, and daughter/caretaker in the end. Granted, I myself am still squicked by the Helen/Henry thing, because she Actually Raised Him right next
( ... )
Favorite part: Kate watches her for a long moment, the sun highlighting the older woman's freckles, blouse draping elegantly as she leans. "You must have had hundreds of people in love with you," she says before thought.
Magnus closes her eyes, and when she speaks again, there's a tenderness and a vulnerability Kate isn't sure she's ever heard before. "Mmm. More often in love with who I appear to be. My position, my status, my influence...the inherent intrigue of my biological state. Far fewer in love with simply...Helen."
I think that must be a little how Amanda feels, too. People love her for Sam or Helen or who they think she is...whether that's who Amanda really is or not.

You're probably quite right. I hope she has a tight circle around of whom she's unquestionably sure. But I know enough even from this distance to know that as much as she seems to wear her heart on her sleeve, she rarely even tells those she seems closest to about the stuff that really counts or really hurts. But she seems very close to her actual family (husband/mother/siblings), and that can be enough when it's real.

Thank you! If I ever live through the holidays and get to FINISH all the half-written stuff on my hard drive, you should get a flood more.LOL
I love your Sanctuary fics, you manage to capture the characters perfectly.
Oh, thank you so much. Spot-on characterization is always the highest fic compliment in my eyes.
