Khim, hoping to find Hob in, pushes on his door. It's never been locked before...

... and it still isn't.

Hob sits at his desk before the single narrow window in the room. The pooka seems to be working on something, and the room has the slight scent of glue in the air. Gentle waves of shadow and light play across the walls from his glowing fishbowl, the mermaid figure within glowing ever so slightly. (She seems to have company: Hob's put two small orange and white fish and a small castle in the bowl as well.) Otherwise, his tiny dorm room remains fairly spartan and meager in possessions.

At the sound of the door squeeking slightly on its hinges, he looks up and grins at Khimaris.

Khim's nose wrinkles, but she crosses the room anyway to lay a kiss on Hob's forehead. "Arts and crafts for the crafty, I see. What are you up to?"

Wiping his hands, Hob smiles and kicks his chair back to reveal his project.

The desktop is covered in bits of wood. A few simple tools are scattered about as well. In the center of the chaos of his workspace lies a crude and rough-shaped boat, about a foot long. It looks to be some sort of fishing boat, with squarish block near the bow to represent a pilot house. It's obviously unfinished and needs a lot more work.

"I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking."

"Row, row, row your boat?" Khim sings experimentally. She bursts into laughter before she can get another line out. Someone, it seems, is in a good mood. "Would I be able to drag you a way for a bit? I was thinking we might go out. We could..."

She flushes a bit, looking down. "We can take Kali along if you like."

Hob smiles up at her as he drops the rag on the table.

"Imagine me and you
and you and me..."

Rising, the pooka gives her a quick kiss on the forehead and grabs his coat from the ancient freestanding wardrobe. He shrugs into the tattered peacoat and slings his cap on, looking all the world like a sailor turned tramp, but a happy one. Taking a few steps back towards the desk, he looks down at his toy boat. He touches it lovingly with a wistful gaze.

"I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume and the sea-gulls crying."

Then Hob looks up to Khimaris again, and the sad sailor is gone, replacing by the innocent and happy smiling of the fool.

"Perhaps, when the weather is better," she tries experimentally, "we could take a trip?"

Not home, she amends silently, though I think that's the water you truly yearn for.

Hob grins even further and takes her hands. For adventures and adventurers, only Tolkien will serve:

"The something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and waterfalls, and to explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking stick."

Pulling her lithe form towards him and into an embrace, he rests his forehead against hers gently, smiling all the while.

Khim laughs, her arms tightening about Hob. "Caves? Only if you're suddenly able to turn into a bat. So..."

I really don't want to let him go, now.

"Shall we find Kali?"

Nodding happily, he tucks Khimaris' arm into his own and leads the way out.

The boat and glue remain on his desk, momentarily forgotten behind him. In the shadows cast by the glowing mermaid, the boat's shade can be seen upon the one wall. With the play of lights, it almost seems to be sailing on its own...

Hob escorts her out into and then starts down the hall, leaving his door unlocked and wide open behind them.

Khim blinks at the boat. Very... interesting. But a good mystery doesn't compare to a good girlfriend.

After a short time, she knocks on Kali's door.
