Spring Poems

I really want it to be spring. Oh, it technically is already, but it doesn't feel like it. But still, spring is going to have to come one of these days, right? Here are some hopeful poems to help it along.

earthworms cover the sidewalks again
bodies drying in the early april sun
fresh food for the returning gulls

two young mud-caked boys
long branches in their hands
playing with the turtle's heart

the fishes' scales stung and tore at my hand
my grandfather watching
as I threw it back into the lake
